Following his big win at UFC 154, Johny Hendricks makes his case for a title shot, and says that GSP hasn't faced anyone quite like him yet.
After securing an amazing knockout over Martin Kampmann at the co-main event of UFC 154, Johny Hendricks solidified his place as the top contender in the welterweight division. The big win makes it 5 in a row for 'Big Rig', with victories over Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck and he has made a very good case for a title shot.
"I don't think he's faced anyone really like me: A strong wrestler, a 'one-hit' guy if he really wants to be, and no one has seen my jiujitsu yet, so don't count that out," Hendricks said as he spoke to MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani after the fight. "I want a shot, and I proved it tonight. Hopefully I get that shot."
"I wake up everyday, dreaming of that belt, dreaming of a shot at that belt. This fight was to prove I deserve a belt, and I think I did that."
Following St. Pierre's gutsy win over Carlos Condit, everyone is talking about a possible super-fight against Anderson Silva, and rightfully so. Although there are still a lot of hurdles before they can get that in place, that's a big money fight which could be one of the biggest bouts the promotion can put on today.
Regardless if it happens or not though, sooner or later GSP will still be facing welterweights. And when he does, that potential bout against a decorated wrestler and power puncher like Hendricks is truly an intriguing stylistic match up worth salivating for.
