Well, I'm pretty sure not many people saw that coming. Muay Thai striker Cyrille Diabate is known for pinpoint striking, but he ended up finishing Chad Griggs by choke in their UFC 154 light heavyweight bout. After dropping Griggs and bumbling around with him for a while, he sunk a rear naked choke and got the tap. It was actually Diabate's sixth career submission victory. The finish came at 2:24 of the first.
Griggs tried to come forward and attack with kicks right away, but Diabate quickly leveled him with a big shot. Diabate jumped into side control, but got briefly reversed by Griggs. Diabate go back on top though, and landed some strikes. Griggs was bleeding profusely from the nose. Diabate landed two big knees to the head. The two men grappled against the cage, and Griggs dragged Diabate back down. But Diabate stayed stuck to Griggs' back and finished the fight with a rear naked choke.
Griggs dropped to 0-2 in the UFC, and 0-1 as a light heavyweight. Diabate improved to 4-2 in the UFC with the win.
