He's back. In the main event at UFC 154: St. Pierre vs. Condit, UFC superstar Georges St. Pierre (22-2 MMA; 16-2 UFC) finally returns from his knee injury to take on Carlos Condit (28-5 MMA; 5-1 UFC). This five round fight will unify GSP's UFC Welterweight title with Condit's interim belt. The UFC 154 PPV airs this Saturday night, November 17, with the main card beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT.
There are a lot of questions surrounding this fight, and I'm greatly looking forward to finding out the answers. Is GSP 100% back from the injury, or will it cause him troubles? Will Condit come out aggressive, or use the strategic approach he employed against Diaz? Will GSP go for the finish? And maybe the biggest one - what will be next for the winner, and is Silva vs. GSP finally about to happen?
How do these two stack up?
St. Pierre: 31 years old | 5'10" | 76" reach
Condit: 28 years old | 6'2" | 76" reach
What have these two done recently?
How did these two get here?
Georges St. Pierre got here by dominating the Welterweight division. The two time UFC champion has for some time been widely recognized as one of the top 2 pound for pound fighters in the world. But at the same time, his last fights have been all decision wins, and there was growing criticism that he had become too tentative since being KO'd by Matt Serra. This is his first fight in a year and a half due to a knee injury.
Carlos Condit was the final WEC Welterweight champion. He lost his UFC debut (to Martin Kampmann) and has gone undefeated since. His Interim title win over Diaz was not without controversy, as many did not like Condit's counter striking approach to the fight. Also controversial was his decision to sit out and wait for GSP's return, essentially putting the division on lockdown all year. The longtime Greg Jackson trainee is a big underdog here, but that's where he thrives.
Why should you care?
Because one of the greatest of all time is coming back, and against a game opponent too. Honestly, what more could you possibly need?
