UFC president Dana White revealed that Heavyweight Cheick Kongo had been offered the chance to replace Shane Carwin against Roy Nelson at the TUF 16 Finale in December but declined the fight. Matt Mitrione stepped up instead.

We posted yesterday that Roy Nelson's fellow veteran of season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter Matt Mitrione would be stepping in against Nelson at the TUF 16 Finale in December. Now, thanks to a Tweet from UFC president Dana White we know that Mitrione wasn't necessarily the promotion's first choice to replace the injured Shane Carwin:

Kongo last fought in July when he took a decision win over Shawn Jordan at UFC 149. He has no fights currently scheduled and based on his Twitter feed appears to be at home in France.
