When I first watched it live, I thought that the fight was really close and that it could go either way..But after further review, its clear that Condit won rounds 1 to 4, and Diaz got the 5th round. If I remember correct 2 judges gave 49-46 and 1 judge gave 48-47 for a UD for Condit..
Approximately 90% of the fight was fought on feet..rounds 1 to 4 and majority of the 5th round are all the same..Diaz always pushing forward and trying to trap Condit in the fence to throw his valley of punches..Obviously, Condit has a very good gameplan and executed it almost perfectly..contrary to the claims of Diaz nuthuggers, Condit didnt run the whole fight..He just fought smart, he circled away from the fence once Diaz trapped him.he sometimes even throw some combinations before he re-set in the center of the cage..Condit is even active in his striking and sometimes throw low percentage shots like spinning back fists..Diaz landed some very hard shots to Condit and vice versa..Kudos to these fighters for being ultra tough..We all know that Diaz has an iron jaw, but after that fight I can say Carlos belongs in the same category..before the start of the 5th round, Rogan is saying that he thinks that Condit is winning the fight and Diaz should go for the desperation mode, in which he obviously did in the last round..
Diaz attempted 2 takedowns and got 1, IIRC its in the last minute of the 5th round, which is the only round that he clearly won..he got Condit's back which is one of the worst position to be with Nick. Diaz attempted few submissions but Condit neutralizes it all...
As soon as the fight ended, Diaz hugged Condit and I was a bit suprised how respectful he was to his opponent. Before Buffer announced the winner, Carlos started crying as he knew he will be the Interim WW champ.. on the other hand, Diaz is talking to Lorenzo regarding the just concluded fight. this just showed how special Nick is to the top brass..in the after fight interview, Diaz said that he was happy for Condit and his family for his win. This fight made me a bigger fan of both.. Diaz for being a tough SOB and his respect for his opponent, and Condit for being a very good complete fighter..In this regard, I really think that Condit will beat GSP and I think he is a more complete and well rounded fighter..but then again, GSP defending his title will do good for the fans, as it will set up a mega fight with Anderson..
