TMZ broke big news Thursday night, saying WMMA star Ronda Rousey was heading to the UFC in 2013. Her manager stepped in Saturday saying that her contract is unchanged.
Thursday evening, TMZ hit the MMA world with some big news. According to the gossip site, Strikeforce's female Banatamweight champion Ronda Rousey could be expected to make her UFC debut in 2013. This would make Rousey the first woman to ever compete in the Octagon. Shortly thereafter, her fellow WMMA star Miesha Tate announced her own UFC membership.
"Rowdy" Rousey's manager appears quick to put the breaks on all the hype, however. In a comment to Sports Illustrated, Ronda's manager Darin Harvey said:
Right now, nothing has changed.
Harvey's denial of the news comes as a pretty big surprise considering notable UFC insider Ariel Helwani confirmed TMZ's report shortly after TMZ's announcement. Over years Helwani has established himself as a legitimate and reliable source for the inner workings of the UFC. I would be incredibly surprised to find out Ariel's report was incorrect here.
What do you thing Bloody Elbowers? Will we see the first WMMA fight in 2013?
