Bellator removes Dan McGuane from upcoming card due to 'previous incident'

Following an earlier article on Bloody Elbow explaining that Bellator had booked Dan McGuane, a man convicted in the beating death of an 18 year old in 2005, the promotion has announced that McGuane has been removed from the card.

After our article earlier today about Dan McGuane, a fighter scheduled to compete on Bellator's upcoming show this coming riday (November 16), Bellator has tweeted out that McGuane has been removed from the card. McGuane was convicted of manslaughter after he and his twin brother beat an 18-year-old to death in 2005.

Here is the tweet Bellator sent:

To be clear, there are states where you aren't even allowed a fighter's license with a violent felony conviction (such as New York). I don't know the actual law in Rhode Island, where the event was set to take place, but I did reach out to them to confirm that he disclosed the felony conviction on his application for a fighter's license. But I don't expect to hear back until Monday.

Kudos to Bellator for doing the right thing and cutting McGuane from the card though. Despite claims that he "should have the right to earn a living however he wants" I firmly believe that murderers and rapists should not be licensed to fight. If they are licensed, I hope to see visible promotions look to avoid putting money in their pockets.
