Hennepin County, Minnesota authorities have set UFC Lightweight Jeremy Stephens' bail at $100,000. The fighter faces extradition to Iowa to face charges resulting from a 2011 incident in Polk County, Iowa.
MMA Fighting is reporting that UFC Lightweight Jeremy Stephens, in a Minnesota jail since his arrest early Friday morning, has had his bail set at $100,000 and he faces a possible extradition to Iowa. According to UFC president Dana White and Stephens' management, Evolution Agents, the fighter is wanted in Iowa in relation to a 2011 incident at a party in Polk County.
Evolution Agents released a statement yesterday claiming that Stephens was present at a party at which a "physical altercation" took place and asserting that Stephens "had never been arrested in connection with the assault, contacted about any possible charge and or notified about any outstanding warrant by mail or any other means."
UFC president Dana White worked throughout the day of UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot and on into the event trying to secure Stephens' release so he could face Yves Edwards in a scheduled bout but was unable to make it happen.
UPDATE: Stephens will return to court for a hearing on October 23rd at 1:30pm according to the Hennepin county website.
