Overall, I felt that InvictaFC 3 was a very good MMA card.
I am really curious to see the future of InvictaFC. Will they have a tv deal? Will the UFC eventually buy them out? I know that there are doubters out there that feel that InvictaFC won't last. However, I personally don't see any evidence of that.
The Tara LaRosa vs Vanessa Porto fight was the only fight that would be considered boring, and even then, Porto was finding a home for her right hand and was punishing LaRosa with leg kicks.
I am guessing that Penne will fight Michelle Waterson next. It's strange to me that InvictaFC decided to make a Title for the 105 lb division first when it doesn't seem to have that much talent. The 135 lb division has the most talent in Womens MMA, and I would assume that they would crown a 135 lb champion next.
It's nice to see prospects in Womens MMA, and it validates that Womens MMA is indeed growing. Jessamyn Duke and Tecia Torres in particular impressed me, and it's good to see that Duke does utilize her reach advantage.
Some of the grappling battles were pretty crazy. I see positions in these fights that I generally don't see, and there are so many scrambles on the ground.
I got this sense watching the previous InvictaFC cards and I got it with this card as well, but it really does look like many of these female fighters fight to finish, and not fight to just get ahead on points.
A couple of these fights were mismatches like Esparza vs Alvarez. I guess that it's to be expected though as the talent pool is still relatively shallow.
Records are very deceiving in Womens MMA right now. Aisling Daly had a 13-3 record coming into her bout with Barb Honchak, who was coming into the bout with a 6-2 record. Watching the fight though, Honchak was clearly the better all around fighter, and Daly needed a lot of work. Then there are fighters like Leslie Smith who came into her bout with a 3-2-1 record, but she in my opinion is a lot better than her record indicates.
I like the commentary for these shows. Mauro, Kedzie, and King Mo are a good team, and Kedzie in particular appears so enthusiastic about the product. I'm also glad that they got Joe Martinez to do the ring announcing.
InvictaFC is pretty much the only MMA organization that will be able to create a hierarchy in each Womens weight divisions. I would like to see them put out more shows if possible like one show every two months or so. They can pretty much get most of the female fighters that are out there.
