I noticed today that promising Strikeforce Welterweight Jordan Mein has been announced for as part of "The Score Fighting Series" on Nov 23rd in Canada.
This got me thinking... Since Strikeforce has cancelled it's last two shows and isn't going to even give anyone on its roster the chance to fight until at least January, should some of their fighters just look for fights outside of the organization and force Strikeforce to stop them. Even if the card happens in January, there is no assurance when the next card after that will be, or which fighters will be picked to fight on this card. Would Strikeforce try to stop them?
Numerous Strikeforce fighters, most notably Jacare Souza, and Tim Kennedy have complained about the lack of fights being offered to them, and the resulting lack of salary that they can earn. It would be very interesting to see if Zuffa, or Strikeforce too any action to stop them if they tried to take a fight in another organization. These fighters have families, and have made many sacrifices to pursue a career in MMA. I'm sure that more than one fighter has inquired if he can void his contract because he is not being offered fights?
The obvious problem is that any fighter who does this would risk angering the Zuffa overlords, but it might be worth the risk for someone on the roster, and if one fighter gets away with it, then the rest might try to follow.
