The story of legendary fighter Evander Holyfield has become the latest chapter in a book that we're all-too familiar with; the financial ruin of famous boxers. Reportedly owing $10 million on a possible $5 million in assets, Holyfield actually earned $100 million more in his career than Mike Tyson, his famous foe and the poster boy for excess. The real question for me is this: Did the neurological damage Holyfield took in the ring play a part in his financial catastrophe? Is this the likely inevitability of all long-term participants in combat sports?
