In the second bout on the UFC 153 main card, Phil Davis and Wagner Prado met for the second time after an early eyepoke brought a halt to their first bout a couple of months ago. This time there was a decisive finish, as Davis totally dominated in the grappling department and ended up submitting Prado in the second round with an anaconda choke. The finish came at 4:29 of the second stanza.
Prado was never really able to get anything going on the feet and spent large portions of the fight on his back, fighting off submission attempts. Davis set up a nice arm triangle choke that almost finished Prado in the second, but he was able to escape. It didn't take very long for Davis to switch it up though, and locked on the anaconda to had Prado his first professional loss.
What was the high point of this fight?
The finish. The gator roll and anaconda were simply awesome.
Where do they go from here?
It's tough to figure out where they go with Davis from here. After treating him like top flight talent for a while, they've pushed him well down the card to take on a guy like Prado. Will he be back up facing top 10 guys again? Or continuing to feast on mid-level talent? Who knows at this point.
Prado was in way over his head, obviously. I'd like to see him face fellow UFC 153 runner up Fabio Maldonado in a striker vs. striker bout.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Watch it later. There's enough action to almost qualify as a "now", but with so many other good bouts on the card, this one can wait. Try to see the finishing sequence at least though. It was beautiful.
