UFC 153: The Matchups that have to be made

Last night was an extremely enjoyable night of fights for me. 4 out of the 5 main card fights had exciting finishes and the one that didn't was FOTN, and Jon Fitch WARRED!!!

The matchups that need to be made are as follows:

Anderson Silva vs. GSP- The Jones fight is not gonna happen now so its time to move on. Neither fighter wants it and nothing Dana says will change that. Barring Jon saying something to piss the hell out of Silva, I think we should all focus on the other superfight. This fight can actually happen if GSP beats Condit and the hype around it would jump exponentially if GSP is able to finish Condit in dominating fashion. Let's all just wait for UFC 154 to see what happens with this one.

Glover Texeira vs Phil Davis- Glover needs to prove that he can handle a takedown and top control threat before getting anywhere near Jon Jones and Phil Davis is the man to do it. Phil showed off some beautiful takedowns, guard passes, and the finish was magnificent. Davis on the other hand needs to show that he can handle being in the cage against a brick fisted striker with actual submission grappling skills that may not allow Davis to just blast for takedowns without any worry of being subbed or swept. I think this is the perfect matchup for both as a win for Glover puts him in line for a top 5 fight and a win for Davis puts him right back in that position as well.

Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia- My brain will asplode from the possible grapplefest that these two ground specialists could put on. Silva had that choke all but locked up and Fitch just shrugged it off. 24 sub attempts, 0 submissions, a blanketing top game, and superior wrestling skills. Fitch showed that he is able to, and finally willing to go for finishes (that fight should have been stopped) and put on a show. Since dropping to 170, Maia, who's career seemed to have stalled out at MW, has rejuvenated his career by FINALLY starting to grapple again. In both of his bouts, he swarmed his opponents from the starting bell and dragged the fight to the ground which ended in a weird TKO against Kim and a beautifully horrific neck crank which had Story's nose pouring blood. This fight would be absolutely awesome as the unsubbable Fitch fights the submission minded grappling wizard Maia.

The other main card fighters didn't show me anything that really warrants excitement for their next fight to be honest. Maldanado needs a long time off after that beating, Herman needs to take his training seriously, Nog looked old, slow, and out of shape,Prado either should drop to MW, or really work on his grappling or both. Bonnar is either gonna retire or finally get that fight with Forrest, and Silva needs a step down in competition after being shown he isn't quite ready for the elite of the division. Of all the other fighters not given matchups that need to happen above, I am most interested to see how Silva bounces back from this fight. Maybe a fight with Rick Story would be a good idea but it wouldn't be one I need to see.

That's all for now folks, so lemme hear your ideas.
