Get all the information on UFC 153 and Anderson Silva vs. Stephan Bonnar in this Bloody Elbow fight card primer.

In the main event at the UFC 153 PPV, UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva (32-4 MMA; 15-0 UFC) takes on Stephan Bonnar (14-7 MMA; 8-6 UFC). This is a Light Heavyweight fight - the 3rd of Silva's UFC career. It's also a three round fight, despite being the main event. UFC 153 airs live on PPV Saturday night, October 13 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.

This is a bit of a bizarre fight that came about as a result of the UFC's recent plague of injuries. The original main event here was to be Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch for the Featherweight title. An injury to Koch had that switched to Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar, which was then scrapped due to an injury to Aldo. What we're left with is the most dominant champion in UFC history moving up in weight to fight the ultimate underdog. It's an intriguing battle, and while we all know Bonnar doesn't really stand much of a chance, that wild card that he just might maybe pull it off is fascinating.

How do these two stack up?

Silva: 37 years old | 6'2" | 77" reach
Bonnar: 35 years old | 6'4" | 80" reach

What have these two done recently?

Silva: W - Chael Sonnen (TKO) | W - Yushin Okami (TKO) | W - Vitor Belfort (KO)
Bonnar: W - Kyle Kingsbury (UD) | W - Igor Pokrajac (UD) | W - Krzysztof Soszynski (TKO)

How did these two get here?

Anderson "The Spider" Silva got here my being the most dominant fighter the UFC has ever seen. He's currently on an unprecedented 15 fight UFC win streak, and hasn't suffered a legitimate loss since 2004. With his rival Sonnen behind him and no clear challenger at Middleweight just yet, Silva takes this Light Heavyweight fight. Last time he competed at 205, it resulted in the destruction of Forrest Griffin, which we may see repeated here. The big talk for Silva is not focused on Bonnar, but what comes after, as the long discussed superfight with Georges St. Pierre seems to be drawing nearer.

Full coverage of UFC 153

"The American Psycho" Stephan Bonnar put his name in UFC record books with his Octagon debut against Forrest Griffin in the famous Ultimate Fighter finale. The Carlson Gracie black belt has always been popular thanks to his fan-friendly style, but he's had a lot of ups and downs in the UFC. A few years ago his career looked nearly done, as he suffered three straight loses, including a very surprising loss to Mark Coleman. But he's back on track now, currently on a three fight win streak. To say he has his work cut out for him here is a massive understatement. Bonnar is in an interesting position here where simply not getting destroyed will be a win for him.

Why should you care?

Because it's Anderson Silva, that's why. I don't care who he fights, I'm in. And Bonnar's willingness to go to war makes this a potentially very fun fight, even if it does end up as a massacre.
