UFC 153 fight card primer: Luiz Cane vs. Chris Camozzi

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

Bloody Elbow gives you a brief rundown of all of the UFC 153 fights, including this preliminary bout between Luiz Arthur Cane and Chris Camozzi.

One of several Brazil vs. USA matchups on tonight's UFC 153 card in Brazil is a middleweight fight between Luiz Arthur Cane (13-4 1 NC MMA, 4-4 UFC) and Chris Camozzi (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC). It's the 2nd of 2 preliminary card bouts scheduled to air on the UFC's official Facebook page. As is the case for most of the prelim bouts, neither man is ranked in the SB Nation MMA Consensus Rankings.

Cane is finally making his middleweight debut and he's in desperate need of a win. Another loss could see him on his way out of the UFC. Camozzi's 2nd stint in the UFC has been steady and he's on a two-fight winning streak. You can catch the UFC 153 prelims on Facebook at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT.

How do these two stack up?

Cane: 31 years old | 6'2" | 77" reach
Camozzi: 25 years old | 6'3" | 75.5" reach

What have these two done recently?

Cane: L - Stanislav Nedkov (TKO) | W - Eliot Marshall (TKO) | L - Cyrille Diabate (KO)
Camozzi: W - Nick Catone (TKO) | W - Dustin Jacoby (SUB) | L - Francis Carmont (UD)

How did these two get here?

"Banha" lost his UFC debut against James Irvin after kneeing The Sandman in the head while he was down. Cane recovered by starching Jason Lambert and Sokoudjou before winning a decision against Steve Cantwell. He was climbing up the 205 lbs ladder until Lil Nog's fists sent him nearly below the surface of the Earth. An upset loss to Cyrille Diabate put his back against the wall, but he dusted Eliot Marshall in March 2011. He was knocked out again, this time by Stanislav Nedkov in Brazil at UFC 134, and he hasn't fought since. Originally Cane was scheduled to face Yushin Okami at UFC 150 but the injury bug was having none of that business.

Camozzi was unlucky not to go far on season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, but he sustained so much damage in his opening fight against Victor O'Donnell that he was removed from the show with a broken jaw. Fortunately he was given a spot on the season finale card, defeating James Hammortree by decision. Camozzi edged out Dongi Yang in his next fight only to suffer an immediate submission loss to Kyle Noke, causing a surprise release. A draw-turned-split decision win (math is hard) in Shark Fights saw him back in the UFC, but he dropped a decision to Francis Carmont. He's since won his last two, including an entertaining TKO (doctor's stoppage) win over Nick Catone. Camozzi was scheduled to face Buddy Roberts, also at UFC 150, but Camozzi pulled out due to injury.

Why should you care?

Cane needs to save his UFC career and he's in a new weight class. Not too many boring Cane fights so let's see if he can stifle Camozzi's hot-streak or if Camozzi sends him packing.
