It's been 5 days since SB Nation's changed its layout, and I still don't like it. To be even more blunt, I hate it, and I'm looking for alternatives to jump ship to.
I won't bother getting into all the technical details of why I dislike the new layout, but something that wasn't mentioned in-depth in previous threads is that BE's major selling point is its community. Let's be honest, BE is the pound-for-pound copy pasta MMA site. If I wanted nothing but news, I'd be reading Sherdog or just subscribing to every single MMA twitter account there is. But I'm not too concerned about up-to-date news because it'll reach me eventually; it's the community that makes BE fun to read and addicting to keep up-to-date with.
The tweet posts are fun because you can talk about them with the other users. Articles are fun to read because of gif images in the comments. The best analyses come from former everyday BE readers like Jack Slack or current everyday users like gzl5000, not the editors. It's the community that gives BE its mojo, but the new layout makes active participation in the comments such a hassle because of all the damn scrolling and zig-zag reading, so the mojo is losing its juice.
The new layout would make a lot of sense for a site like Sherdog, which focuses heavily on the articles and barely anything at all on users' comments. It doesn't make as much sense for BE. When I read an article on Sherdog, that's basically it. I don't scroll down to the comments because there aren't any. When I read an article on BE on my smartphone, I want to get back to my PC to engage in long debates about Condit vs. Diaz and how fake Jon Jones is. It's not convenient at all to write a comment that's several paragraphs long on my smartphone that explains why I think Diego Sanchez is an underrated fighter, so it's baffling why SB Nation thought it was a good idea to crapify the PC experience in order to accommodate the mobile users.
So yeah, gimme some alternatives, users, cuz YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, BE.
