You should replace “rolling with Tiago” to “gets tolled by Tiago”
I’d like to see him against Paul Harris.
Wow
Did Maia really get dominated on the mat for 5 straight minutes? That was really impressive on Tiago’s part
Didn't really get dominated
Neither guy did much (if this were a points match) until Tiago passed Maia’s guard at the end of the video.
"Now you see that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb."
he was on top for the whole time & he got full mount early.
debating on whether or not someone got dominated isn’t really necessary here, I think just being able to get advantageous grappling positions against Demian Maia is pretty damn good.

Oh yeah he's awesome for sure
I was just judging off of IBJJF judging criteria (from what I know of it)

NO not at all
If you haven’t trained bjj for a while it’s tough to understand and easy to make assumptions with a ity like this. Maia is going about 30 percent just working positions with him. He was working just guard retention and flowing with this dude. There was multiple times in their exchanges that Maia could have just swept him when he pulled him into deep half. Maia was letting this dude work his passes and such. If he wanted to he could have had the guy tapping almost at will. A lot of the time when their is a great skill disparity even in local gyms, the higher belt works with the less experienced student. Not all rolling is balls to the wall trying to choke the shit out of someone or take a limb. I work with lower belts all the time and let them work passes on me etc. There is no ego in a good academy, and Maia certainly doesn’t have one in situations like this. He has nothing to prove he is as world class as they get.
Quite frankly we don’t know how hard either of them was going, or what they were trying to work while they were grappling.

But actually I do
I know for a fact Maia was not going hard on him at all, that much is not up for speculation. If you have ever seen Maia compete you should know that. The average judo black belt spends little time on the ground doing as they call it nee-awaza, due to the rule set in olympic style judo. The consensus is that a judo black belt is about equal to your average bjj blue belt in the submission game. As with anything there are exceptions but were talking about one of the best black belts on the planet vs an accomplished judoka. This guy is obv talented but all I am saying that is Maia would have absolutely raped him if he wanted to, and any serious grappler will tell you that.
Everyone relax. It was a fun smooth rolling session. Maia is a multiple time world champion and definitely wasn't turning it up.
Just enjoy the fact that we got to see these two guys roll. Like discoandherpes said (how many times does one type that in their lifetime?) we don’t know how hard either guy was going so just enjoy the video for what it is. I let white belts pass my guard on a daily basis to work out of positions, I would hate to think that someone with a video camera could come into my training session and make the determination that these white belts are better than me based on that…..
I like these judo crossovers into BJJ (if that's what tiago is doing)
Calasans is another guy who’s making a name for himself in BJJ, coming from Judo.

Camillo will most likely be going to the his third Olympics in London
and has a pretty good chance of medalling so I doubt if he is crossing over anytime soon
