I am bitter.
It's true that I love the fact that UFC is on FOX now. It's true that the increased exposure of our beloved sport can do nothing but add legitimacy to what goes on in the cage. It's true that FOX is going to help the UFC get away from the "Just Bleed" reputation that MMA has garnered. So why am I bitter? Well unlike most sports (except for Hockey) a key market for the UFC is Canada. There is no denying that Canada is one of the bigger markets for the UFC in terms of live gates, and I'm willing to bet that per capita, Canada's PPV buys are at the top of any country (do they have that info available? I'm too bitter to look). You may be asking yourself what's the point of this ramble? Well I'll tell you after the jump.
Canada does not get many of the FOX affiliate channels. While that won't matter for actual events (Rogers Sportsnet picks those up, but sometimes only on Sportsnet One, a premium channel only offered on digital cable) there are ZERO channels that I know of on Canadian cable that pick up the FUEL TV extra shows. This is incredibly frustrating for me.
On New Year's day, I woke up drunk and hungover at the same time at 7 am thanks to my yappy cat. After lots of coffee and some pancakes, I remembered that there was a 24 hour UFC marathon on FUEL. Sweet. Since I was staying at my parents house, I plopped down on the big ass couch, to watch the big ass TV that gets over 500 channels. Not a single one was showing any UFC. "How could that be?" I thought, so I took to FUEL's FB page to get in quick contact. "For the love of god help me FUEL, I will do anything to get your channel to watch the UFC. Please come to Canada." Two hours later I check back on the page and FUEL deleted my comment! What. The. Fuck.
Pissed off and hungover, I decide it's time to go into research mode and find out why I am getting the short end of stick here. Sure enough...
Canada may be great for lots of things, but this fucking sucks. Not only that, but everytime I go to any MMA site (and BE is my fav) I see some add for some awesome fight on FUEL TV.
Fuck. I am bitter.
