Good night Irene!

Sorry, there isn't really much to this post, I just wanted to note something funny from the Dream New Year Event.

I finally got round to watching the Dream New Year event, which was awesome! The top 3 things I love about Dream are the fact that the broadcasts are massive, so you get an epic MMA spectacle (although I do skip the pro wrestling parts) the great one liners and catch phrases of Micheal Schiavello and the singy shouty lady who announces the fighters. Now, I love it when Schiavello yells "It's good night Irene!". Imagine my delight when I heard that his fiance was called Irene. That's great! I imagine that after they've been intimate, he says "It's the big cabush, Good Night Irene!" then immediately falls asleep.

If his spouse is named Irene, that's probably the source of the phrase.

The Voice is a great talent, and I wish he got to call the action for more Showtime events. When he and Bas did an SF undercard, it was awesome.

I'm just glad being a big fat music nerd is good for something.

And while the song is the origin of the phrase, I’m sure Shiavello’s wife’s name is indeed the origin of his use of it, so there’s that.

i saw an interview with Shiavello

and his wife’s name being Irene is just a coincidence. He uses the phrase as a tribute to his favorite Pro Wrestling announcer you used it all of the time. As far as I could tell, he wasn’t even aware of the song. Which was disappointing to me because I love me some Lead Belly .

Lenne Hardt is the name of the “Crazy PRIDE lady” and for your information, sir, Barnett Vs. Suzuki was pretty entertaining. But yes, I do love Schiavello as a commentator and I wish he was used for more than HDNET shows. I’d certainly rather hear him than Mauro’s blaring voice in Strikeforce.
