Tony Ferguson Vs. Dennis Hallman Set For UFC On Fox 3
Ultimate Fighter 13 winner Tony Ferguson will look to continue his impressive run at UFC on Fox 3 when he meets a veteran who has won three out of his last four bouts. UFC.com shares the news:
A second lightweight scrap has been added to the UFC on FOX fight card recently announced for May 5 in East Rutherford, NJ. Lightweights Dennis "Superman" Hallman and TUF 13 winner Tony "El Cucuy" (which translates to "The Boogeyman") Ferguson have verbally agreed to the matchup.
Ferguson is currently 3-0 in the UFC and 2-0 at lightweight. He last stepped in the cage at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale in early December, where he defeated Yves Edwards by unanimous decision. On the other side you have Dennis Hallman, who picked up a quick submission victory over John Makdessi at UFC 140 last month. Hallman is probably most famous for submitting Matt Hughes twice back in the day, and the short shorts he wore to the cage at UFC 133 that have since been banned by the organization.
The only other bouts currently scheduled for the card, which will take place in East Rutherford, NJ, are Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller and John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama.

I dig this fight. Tony Ferguson gets another tough veteran. I honestly may favor Hallman in this fight.

we will probably see the same style he used effectively last fight
but I think Ferguson has a lot better TDD, and he can definitely test Hallman’s chin. I’m liking Ferguson more and more, the more I see him fight.

He seems to be improving every time out
While he was on TUF, his striking defense was absolute crap; obviously, he was capable of generating offense, but he left way too many openings. Now he’s tightened things up nicely; great athlete, solid wrestling, quick hands, powerful kicks… there’s a lot to like there.

yeah, it was such a bad TUF season, that I didn't expect much out of anyone
but anyone who can keep his feet and generate that kind of fight-ending power at 155 has the potential to be a force.

Hallman will lay a beat down on Ferguson
If Hallman takes Ferguson down this will be over in a min or two.
Ferguson has a slick ground game
He went for a freaking rolling omoplata in his last fight

Hallman is going to get shit on.
He is going to flail for take downs and just keep eating upper cuts and knees until he is out cold.

Cinco de Mayo
Is the UFC gonna load the card with Mexican-American Fighters? Not that they need to but it would be interesting if they’re going that route.

I've got a good track record with picking Tony each time out so far
I think they are bringing guys like him and Court McGee along at a solid, steady pace.

personally
I think Ferguson has more potential then Court does.

Way more potential.

I agree
I was just stating that I like that neither of them are getting crazy hard fights.
Brookins coming back after injury and getting Koch was a tough one.

Brookins is a veteran
He deserved a tough fight and frankly he’s dull as shit.
Really liking Ferguson, though. He has serious power and great striking. Definitely someone to look at in a power-punching starved UFC 155 LW.

Court has just been injured

Based on the Hamman fight...
I think Philippou is going to truck McGee. Court is quite a slow starter and is, on the whole, kind of a physically slow fighter. Strong as heck, though. Phillippou starts fast and keeps going. Recipe for an early blitz (T)KO.
That said, if Phillippou can’t separate Court from his consciousness, it wouldn’t be too crazy if Court took the decision or round 3 finish by outworking him through the rounds 2 & 3.
I don't know...in the Yang fight...
Court seemed to come back harder and stronger once he was dropped.

Therefore, he takes on the white guru in a round.

i got tony by tko in this one
He really is turning out to be a solid prospect. If he keeps improving like he has each and every fight out so far, I think he can become a solid contender in the 155 division especially with his power.

Should be a nice test of Tony's ground game if Hallman can bring him down.
This is a great fight for Ferguson.

if he beats hallman
Then he really should get a step up in competition I would say a top 20-15 level fighter maybe even a little higher.

I'd say he could fight Tibau
Maybe Michael Johnson for another TUF alum

johnson would be a step down i would say
tibau however is a good idea

If he beats Hallman, Tibau would be a great next step.

ya tibau is a big powerful grappler
with a good chin and decent striking and power. If Ferguson can handle Tibau, then i think he will be ready for fringe top ten contenders.
Awesome!
This finally looks to be a Fox card that is guaranteed excitement + relevance. No way in hell this turns into a turd of an event.
That said, picks will be as hard as can be imagined.

Cain vs Mir on this card?
"You got Floyd Mayweather making 25 million dollars...he can't stop the double leg." - Nick Diaz
Or maybe Cain vs winner of Nelson/Werdum
Or perhaps Mir vs werdum if he wins.
I don’t know…I feel like a card that’s a cinco de Mayo card…with these types of names so far, will probably include Cain or Mir somewhere in there.
"You got Floyd Mayweather making 25 million dollars...he can't stop the double leg." - Nick Diaz
by Chris Groves on Jan 31, 2012 5:45 PM EST up reply actions
Why Cain vs. winner?
I think he should be matched with a fellow loser, that way he has a better shot at winning, which I’m sure the UFC wants; he’s a marketable dude. I’d love to see him fight Big Country after Werdum beats him.
"Computer being attacked by virus contracted from watching illegal japanese schoold girl porn. Bare with me." - Our Bovine Public

I get the loser-loser idea
But for Nelson to lose to Werdum, and then get a step UP to Cain just because Cain is coming off of a loss doesn’t seem…fair.
I mean, he should get a loser who is somewhere around his level, or a winner who is on his way up and would like to break into the top 5.
Kongo and Mir are on their way up, as would the Nelson-Werdum winner, with Carwin on an injury layoff, Lesnar retiring, the Silva fight confirmed to not be in the works and Cain having already fought Nog…it would be a bit easier to try and come up with a fight for him.
I just don’t think a guy who is outside of the top 10 and is coming off of a loss is the right guy to give Cain. I know they try to avoid bouts that come off as ‘gimme’ fights…
"You got Floyd Mayweather making 25 million dollars...he can't stop the double leg." - Nick Diaz
I'd do Cain vs. Mir, too

Ferguson's a BIG lightweight also
The size advantage may not be as significant over Hallman though. Of course, he has to make weight actually.
