UFC 143: Dana White Releases First Video Blog
Monday kicked off "Fight Week...Blog Week!" from UFC President Dana White, who released his first video blog to help hype and promote Saturday's UFC 143.
In this latest installment in the popular series, the focus is all on UFC On Fox 2 with some better behind-the-scenes footage than we've got in recent episodes. Some of the highlights include:
- The UFC on Fox production meeting with White going over things with Randy Couture and Jon Jones. We also see White watching the new open with the Fox robots.
- An upset Joey Beltran following his knockout defeat.
- Eric Wisely explaining his interpretation of the calf slicer submission that Charles Oliveira caught him in.
- Jon Olav Einemo was frustrated that he doesn't come stateside sooner for fights.
- Nik Lentz' eye!
- There's lots of Burt Watson yelling.
- Michael Bisping talks about the close decision and what he says Chael Sonnen told him post-fight.
- Phil Davis getting worked on as he suffered a giant gash on his right knee during the fight. He had to get shots in the wound and apparently doesn't like needles.

All that and more are featured in the 10-minute clip you can see after the jump.

he’s got so much heart, so much courage. hopefully he can cut down to 205 and try to reinvent himself.
The thing is that the overall talent level at the UFC Light Heavyweight Division is much stronger than in Heavyweight, even in the lower-tier of the division. However, he gives up size in Heavyweight, but can fight many fighters who are largely one-dimensional and brawlers like himself.

I won’t say Phil got pushed too fast, because eventually you gotta take that leap into the deep end, but man, did he look uncomfortable the whole night.

his stand is just really still like basic and not fully at the level he should be thats probably why he’s still uncomfortable he looked like that in the lil nog fight but this one just was too obvious i hate to mess up his groove in training just if i was on the west coast i’d be trying to get into blackhouse maybe freddie roaches gym hell going to kings mma would get him IMO more comfortable at what he can do standing especially with his hands his kicks he somewhat on point with he just needs to fully commit and turn with his kicks its his hands that just need the most improvement even goid to AKA i think would be wise there he can learn how to use his hands alot better and mix those strikes with his takedowns finally and not just time them like your still on a wrestling mat. he has alright footwork already i just really think that next step needs to be making his stand up more complete and really just get better technique so that his wrestling can then really shine
like water
and this was the way i felt watching the reem kill brock

His big problem, to me, is that he has a very hard time to really commit to his offense. For example, I would see him throw a right hand, and then bring it back before it is fully thrown because it looked like he was afraid of the counter. One of my friends said that he shows his inexperience because it just looks like he thinks too much instead of just doing things instinctively.

Yeah, it's called parrying
And he made Phil look like he’d been taking boxercise classes for his standup. Really impressive, but they weren’t even close to the same level on the feet.

there's a slight difference between not liking needles & getting multiple shots in your already badly split open shin.
I bet the latter stings like no other.

Isn't this the second time Phil bleeds from his shins in a fight?
Could have sworn he got a similar type cut in one of his previous fights.

In the Boetsch fight
Similiar situation happened. I remember a fanshot showing the gash. I think same location?
Right, yeah. I wonder what gives, if it’s just a coincidence or something wrong with his legs. Don’t see that type of injury too often in fights.

Well this is my theory on the situation:
- Phil hasn’t done a lot of Muay Thai in his life, so his shin skin hasn’t become calloused and thick.
- He throws his kicks with a lot of commitment. (As an aside, could this have contributed to Rashad catching two kicks and putting him on the mat?)
- Rashad checked a lot of Phil’s leg kicks. Not a lot of guys actually check leg kicks on a regular basis and even fewer check them properly. A properly checked kick will likely hurt the guy throwing it.
Not sure if he had leg kicks checked in the Boetsch fight or not, but I’d guess yes.

Yeah, maybe something like that. Probably doesn’t mean anything important, but still pretty interesting to see it happen two separate times (and only one fight between). Maybe we get lucky and someone asks him about it in an interview sometime.

those shots hurt like fuck.
ive had to have that done twice. it is seriously serioulsy painful like 10x worse then getting a tattoo. it looks like he formed an infection or abscess around the cut and the doc had to shoot into it to numb it. its not that hes scared of needles, its just that it hurts enough to make you faint.
Love seeing the comparisons between the winners and losers after the fights

Weird the timestamp changed
Man why didn’t they just jam a finger into the wound and wriggle it around while they’re at it.

I would rather gaze at that thing of beauty than the gash getting stabbed on Davis’s leg.

Everybody won in that fight
UFC- Get their Sonnen Vs. Silva x2 in Brazil.
Sonnen- Gets his title shot
Bisping- Gets some respect and sympathy for a change.
Not really
He asked Bisping what he thought, and Bisping said ‘I think I got the first two rounds’…think being the key word, and Sonnen said ‘I think you might be right’, might being the key word.
What was he supposed to say ‘Yeah, I lost’…what kind of mentality is that? Or better yet, was he supposed to tell Bisping, a guy who just gave him a great fight, ‘No, I got 1 and 3, sorry pip’
Everyone knew the scoring would be close on that one.
