Mark Hominick, Matt Wiman Both Booked For UFC 145

Mark Hominick returns to action at March's UFC 145 against Eddie Yagin.

Mark Hominick will get his opportunity to rebound from a near record setting defeat as he's been booked against Eddie Yagin for the UFC's return to Montreal at March's UFC 145.

Hominick (20-10) has lost two in a row and was knocked out at Toronto's UFC 140 in just seven seconds by Chan Sung Jung. The 32-year-old Yagin (15-5-1) will be looking for his first UFC victory after losing in his September debut to Junior Assuncao by decision.

The UFC also announced that Matt Wiman will fight Mark Bocek on the Montreal card. Wiman (14-6) has won four of his last five, defeating Mac Danzig in October by decision. Bocek (10-4) is coming off a December decision victory over Nik Lentz and is looking for his first win streak since the end of 2009.

UFC 145 is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, at Montreal's Bell Centre, the first event in the city since UFC 124 in December 2010. It will be the fifth UFC event in city history. No main event has been announced yet.

Wiman vs Bocek should have some fun scrambles… Wiman should start working on submission defense.

Agreed

this should be a great fight between two similar fighters. Crazy how Bocek isn’t even ranked considering he arguably beat Miller, gave Henderson a competitive outing, and was the first guy to shut down the flashy fan favorite Nik Lentz.

Wiman's always had very solid submission defense,

and he’s pretty darn good on the ground himself.

Bocek’s attack isn’t really based on throwing out submission after submission anyway…he’s much more technical and focused on dominating position and maintaining control before attempting submissions.

I’ve never heard much about Wiman’s wrestling pedigree, but he’s shown some good TDD in his fights. Do you think it’s going to be really tough for Bocek to get him down?

The title made me think

that Wiman would be dropping down to FW just like half of the fighters at LW.

So happy this is happening

Featherweight will grow off of this, either people beating the people moving down or the people having new life amongst newish competition.

LOL@eddie yagin

man, hominick has fallen so low :c coming from a fan. totally unrelated, but if hominick can get that treatment after 2 straight losses, why the hell can’t they do that for sexyama?! jesus. after he gets wrestlebanged by shield and if he’s not cut, they’d probably give him a title shot or something.. against JDS.

Hominick should dominate Yagin.

This a slow pitch softball to get him back in the W column, or am I just waaay off base here?

Definition of a gimme fight for Hominick.

Yagin looked terrible in his UFC debut against Junior Assuncao. Way too small for featherweight.

What I want to know is...

Why can’t Sexyama get an easy fight like Hominick is getting here?!

He is

Jake Shields. Both careers are kinda simiiliar.

Jake first fight looks not so impressive gets the decision barely.
Same with sexy.
Both were ko’d in there last fight.

That’s all the similarities….oh well.

Except

When Shields loses, he gets an opponent that is less skilled than the previous.

When Akiyama loses, he fights someone even better.
