UFC On Fox 2 Results Recap: Cub Swanson Vs. George Roop

In a preliminary Featherweight fight on UFC on Fox 2, Cub Swanson defeated George Roop by TKO. The end came at 2:22 in the second round. Swanson wins for the first time in the UFC, bringing his record to 1-1 in the UFC, 16-5 overall. Roop drops his second straight and is now just 2-5 in the UFC, 12-9-1 overall.

Coming into the fight with a 0-1 UFC record, Swanson was very likely fighting for his job here, and he fought like a man who knew that. He came out aggressive to open the fight. After having a few troubles with Roop's stand-up, Cub was able to take charge and end the first round ahead. In the second round, he landed a heavy right on Roop to earn the much needed win.

What was the high spot of this fight?

The big right hand KO from Swanson was a nice one, and on some nights would have earned Cub the KO of the Night bonus.

Where do these guys go from here?

I have to be honest, I assumed Swanson would be a swift cut from the UFC, but with this win, he has earned another shot. The Featherweight division continues to find its footing, so there is no shortage of possible opponents for Cub at this point.

Roop is on a 2 fight losing streak, but I still don't think he gets the ax just yet. His very close loss to Hatsu Hioki and KO of Chan Sung Jung should keep him alive for now - but next time out he will probably be fighting for his job.

Watch it now, later or never?

Later. An entertaining fight and a nice finish from Swanson.
