BECW UFC on Fox 2 Recap

Well, that was a strange night of fights. After a long string of exciting events we were treated to a maincard that featured Pro Elite heavyweight level cardio and a bunch of dudes hugging interspersed with bits of fighting here and there.

Note that the scores have changed from the ones that were published just after the event as Weidman's split decision win was converted into a unanimous one. This would end up having huge implications as the overall individual leader changed because of it while a different team ended up in first place for the event.

The BE camp heavily favoured Roop (87%), Roller (86%) and Beltran (82%) and as a result, only three teams avoided setting a new season-low record. The camp average was a measly 42.6 points, worse than UFC 142 (43.5) though not quite as bad as UFC 140 (40.2) and the TUF 14 Finale card (41.2). DiazHomiez' camp-high score of 74 was 20 points from the top score on Playground and even our beloved Juggalo, Seth Smiley, failed to produce a standout score.

As usual, I will update this FanPost with new stats and graphs as I finish them. Thanks to the spreadsheet-to-html code converter I found on the net there'll be plenty of tables this time around, so I'm introducing a table of contents to hopefully make it seem like this isn't a total clusterfuck of borderline-autistic vomit.

A great performance from captain hyundai moves him into first place. Tats16 makes the top three while DiazHomiez and Luke Nelson's top 2 event scores move them into the top 10. Ironically, DiazHomiez had picked Weidman by split decision and must've thought he'd made the best single pick all season. Had the verdict remained split, pistonhyundai would have had 4 points less and DiazHomiez 4 points more - in other words, DiazHomiez would have been in first place.

The biggest movers were afrotikighosn who jumped into the top half at 40th and is beginning to justify his second round pick status and EmptyThoughts who made it to 52nd place with a score of 57. Both guys improved by an impressive 24 places. Also, we should honour Bertha who is quietly having a very good season and jumped into the top third at 34th, a gain of 19 places.

BLCFPC's top performer, dribblebib, kept up his streak of great scores but alas, with only Snatchl joining him in the 50+ points club it was an event to forget for the Pest Control.

A somewhat consistent performance from LTB but with only one really good score from EmptyThoughts they had another disappointing night. SSReporters' streak of above-average scores came to an end while IKilled007 continues to put up points.

The Chumps were one of four teams that were separated by just 7 points, scoring a respectable 442. If SethSmiley had kept up his remarkable start to the season they would have finished in the top 3, but in the absence of really high scores, their hopes of cutting the lead at the top suffered another blow.

DiazHomiez has come to pick, y'know. Another outstanding score from him combined with a very good score from Bertha were almost cancelled out by disappointing scores from IRodC, SteveevaD and duck meaning the Sleepers had to settle for 5th place.

A lot of good scores, a few bad scores and no really outstanding scores sees the Bus Feeders claim 4th place. av1o3 is having a really good season and an impressive 7 players have now scored above the camp average, but once again the lack of outstanding performers has stopped the Bus Feeders from really making waves.

FINALLY! The Ruiners post their first above-average score of the season with only two players scoring below the camp average. With only two scores above 50, though, the missed their chance to really make up lost ground.

Hands down the most impressive score by any team as The Reccing Machines defied odds by placing 2nd despite nitecastle missing picks for a second straight week. If nitecastle had put up an event-average 41 points, the Filipinos would have placed first. Even without him, they actually placed first until a recount showed that Chris Weidman's victory was unanimous rather than split.

My score sucked and almost didn't count, but thanks to an outstanding performance from Luke Nelson and a lot of very solid scores, INEPT finished first for the third time. It was a low-scoring event so not a lot of damage was done, but c'mon guys, this is too easy!

The only change sees the Champs drop from 2nd to 3rd. The battle for 2nd place should prove exciting over the next couple of events while the Pest Control barely managed to stay ahead of the Trainyard Sleepers.

Ladies and gentlemen, dribblebib has done it! With another great score combined with SethSmiley's first subpar score, the lead has changed.

4. What a difference a season makes

Before the draft, I created a set of power rankings in the hopes of securing the best team possible. The following stats are based on the difference between last season's performance and the first four events of season two. To be eligible for the list, a player must have picked more than two season 1 events. Participation in season 1 of the civil war is not required.

Some incredible improvements from last season, led by 10th ranked mlzybaby who has surprised everyone with the possible exception of his captain who happens to be ranked 1st overall and comes in second on this list. Completing the top 3 is ANOTHER member of the Filipino Reccing Machines, sday420. Also, props must go to halitosis and Tats16 who have turned solid season 1 scores into outstanding season 2 scores.

TomFlynn had a good first season but hasn't been able to get going this season. Zachary has steadied the ship with two slightly above average performances, but he has still had a terrible second season by his standards. The same goes for lanky6 who had just one below average score during all of season 1. Also making the list is crazybones who is a victim of his own success, having torn through season 1 with remarkable scores and finding himself unable to replicate his stellar scores.

5. Overachievers

This table is obviously similar to the "Biggest improvements" table in that the ones that have improved are the same ones that were picked late and are overachieving. This list includes rookies and almost-rookies as well, though, and better answers the question "who was the steal of the draft?"

So I have to join a prospects league? What’s the name and how do I join? If I don’t join the prospect league, can I still participate in the Civil War next season?

I didn’t find out about MMA Playground until just this past week or else I would have been in from the start.

Teams are complete for this season. Only CW players are in to make it easier totally the scores after each event.

You’ll be able to join the draft when next season starts. The last event of this season is UFC 145. Till then you can make your picks to build a track record and give captains an idea of your picking skills.

I don’t know what we’re going to do next season (see my discussion with JDH on overpopulation below) but it would be good if you could manage the prospects camp so whenever someone asks how to join, we just refer them to you.

Once you get it set up you’ll just need to pull the scores from PG (non-camp members won’t be able to access them) and e-mail me and I’ll keep track of them in my recaps.

Is that being compared to point total after 4 events last season or standings? Because I find it hard to believe that being ~10-13 places worse than last season’s standing puts one in even the upper half of the underachievers.

I once made a movie with a friend under the influence of Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds and I’ve recorded a decent amount of music while stoned out of my mind, so I could see that being a pretty swell time. Incredible

Sort of like a supercharged weed trip but much more lucid. I sometimes think more clearly or have an easier time thinking abstract thoughts when I’m stoned but, to sound like a cliched hippie, this was a different kind of knowing. Safe to say it’s the most creative and in tune with my impulses I’ve ever felt though I’m sure it doesn’t compare to acid, etc.

Cub’s lies nearly worked, and if my goal was to have my dick grabbed in public, then Cub’s lies definitely worked. In the end, this girl tried latching on to Jon Jones and moved on to SkyScrape when rejected by Bones. My window was incredibly small and I think I got the most out of it that I possibly could.

I said that anyone could play, rookies, staff, etc. So they’re all welcome. The top performers here are better than them anyway and they don’t even have to pick method or round. I say let the coercion begin. I kinda already think it’s crazy that crazybones doesn’t get an honorary spot in the staff picks pieces.

Tim Burke has a PG profile as well (BeerMonster) but he didn’t make picks for UFC on Fox 2 for some reason.

I’ll put up a fanpost on Wednesday or Thursday directed at the staff & anyone else who isn’t playing. I kinda like the current number of players because I still have an idea who everyone is, but I feel bad for all those guys missing out on the fun in the live threads.

I wouldn’t want to recruit anybody, just encourage people to sign up for MMA Playground and make picks so next season’s captains have something to base their choices on.

Going forward, I think it should be a minimum requirement that everyone who signs up makes picks for at least one event before they’re eligible so we sort out the guys that sign up and forget all about it.

I see your point on not growing much. I guess we might need to agree on some sort of limit, it’s just that I feel bad for all the guys that are missing out on the fun.

Anyway, I’ll stick to a fanpost challenging the staff, then.

What could be fun

Would be if we set a limit, say 150 players, and offered everyone from this season a berth in the new season. Depending on how many decided to keep playing there would be maybe 60 spots open to newcomers. If 200 new guys signed up then those 200 would have to fight to get drafted, either by sucking up, talking trash and/or proving their mettle by picking fights.

How much fun would that draft be?

And yes, people had plenty of time to respond this time around. Maybe it’s because I’m a captain this season, but it feels like the civil war has got crazier this year and a lot of people are asking how to sign up.

Kid Nate who hasn’t made a pick since UFC 81, wisely so
Mike Fagan who did ok-ish in his seven events

(Reading the team scores that are from LOW to HIGH)

Me: Oh hot damn! Third place! Baby look at this, I told you my team was on the come up.
Wife: That’s nice honey.

Long pause as I read the rest of the scores, and realize something fishy is going on.

She leaves the room, I read the description again and see that it’s from low to high.

She returns.

Though my name made headlines this post, I really just put up my fairly consistent number range.

Disappointments of the evening include. Roller in general who I am finally getting over as a fighter. He showed a fair bit of promise in the WEC imo and since coming to the UFC he has just not shined at all. Otherwise, not sticking to my Swanson pick which would have netted me perfect points. I convinced myself late that Roop has been looking good even in his loses and would ride out a decision.

Anyways though, I only looked good in this one because so many others looked bad. Can’t take credit for that. :)
