Third and Final Day of Free Training at Marcelo Garcia's Gym: Recap
I just got home from the city where I had my last free training session. Let me tell you something, I'm sticky and sweaty, sore and banged up and I could not be in a better mood about it! I love Bjj and cannot get enough of it! I think I also can finally convince my parents to chip in some of the monthly fees so its almost official that I may be a member of Marcelo's gym! Anyway lets move on to what I learned. Today we were taught various reversals and sweeps that all started from being on the bottom and from there, getting to in one instance full guard, and the others all ended in sweeps or reversals. I will not go into details as I really dont have the energy for it plus i reek and need to shower. I will be posting whether or not I actually sign up so if you are interested in my progress read and comment any advice you can. Thanks for reading!
P.S. for the guy who keeps asking about curriculum, THEY DO HAVE ONE because part of our training today led to using what we learned the previous lesson.

I read your comment in the other thread, but you did not answer about the sprung floor, do they have a sprung floor? Is there a contract?
It amazes me that not a single MA school I went to had air conditioning(including the over priced ones), its so brutal to train when its hot as hell, its not healthy, not fun and it prevents you from training to your full.
I am free because I choose to be so-Me
Wrong. A lot of schools don’t turn AC on (or on high) because having a warm/hot training room is safer injury wise.
Also “sprung” floors is a terrible idea, no legitimate BJJ/MMA place would have their mat space built with springs beneath; they “may” have a crash pad for practicing full throttle throws but that would be it.

The mat is my church, the ground is my heaven, Jiu-Jitsu is my religion. And once you hit the ground you're in my world. My world is like the ocean, I’m like a shark and most people don't even know how to swim - Draculino
If I live in a castle and you want to kill me, storming the gates is probably not the best idea. You'd do a lot better hitting me in the head with a brick when I come out for the mail. -Ryan Hall
I then rip off my shirt and do like a hulk scream and pose and then say to the kid " don’t you no I would fucking destroy you are you fucking retarded? -Areyouforreal

And as I type this I start reading the comments below and Ben already covered everything I said and with more eloquence.

The floor itself is on form blocks or springs, if your practicing takedowns/throws this dramatically lesson the impact(its what gymnast practice on), it makes practicing throws a lot easier and more fun to do. Since your at a BJJ school, takedowns may not me a big priority, and the floors are not cheap.
I would be wary of any contracts, plenty of schools out there without them. How much does the training cost?

Enough with this nonsense.
Floors with springs in them are usually a sign of tae kwon do McDojos/schools and the like. They’re often covered with terrible mats and mostly provide bounce, rather than shock absorption. BJJ and MMA schools will usually not have them.
Usually in BJJ, there are actually good mats on the floors that do a great job of cushioning falls. For the “big” throws and takedowns, there will often be a crashpad used. That’s a big, fat additional cushion that’s brought onto the mats and used to break the harai goshis and seonagis you’ll learn.
You are like the suspicious Internet nerd archetype and your comments show a lack of understanding regarding most one year contracts and the obsession on “curriculums” and “sprung floors”.
For one year contracts, what you’re essentially signing up to is something like Netflix – automatic billing of your credit card/checking account/bank account. It can be suspended or stopped in case of injury or if you really do not want to go there. Marcelo and his staff are likely to listen very well to their students if such situations occur and give them the benefits of the doubt. Read the terms, see if they work for you and sign or walk. Your choice.
Marcelo is a world champion who basically does not need to screw anybody over to make a great living.

What legitimate BJJ school doesn’t have contracts?

its 195 for two days a week if you sign a one year agreement and 220 for unlimited training with a 1 year agreement
its i think 250 for unlimited if you only sign up for a month at a time and 235 for two times a week
