the first “shoulder shot” glanced off the back of Carlo’s head before it hit his shoulder. the “missed strike” was another blow that glanced off the crown of his head. A couple of those “ear” strikes arguably hit the back of his head, but what’s not accounted for at all are the “ear” shots in which Silva’s wrist/forearm made back of the head contact.

Not that I think it was cause for disqualification.

Yeah the only one aimed at the back of the head was that first punch

The rest seemed unintentional but still landed with the forearm. Like I said in another thread it’s like inside leg kicks, you’re not intentionally trying to hit the guy’s balls but don’t be surprised when you get in trouble for doing so.

It’s amazing how few of those hit the back of the head considering how fast he was hammering. Silva was obviously trying very hard to throw legal strikes. I’m tired of dudes just going nuts with the hammerfists after they’ve got a guy hurt. So often they drill peeps in the back of the head, and nothing gets said or done about it.

Like I said in another thread it’s like inside leg kicks, you’re not intentionally trying to hit the guy’s balls but don’t be surprised when you get in trouble for doing so.

Unless you’re Kamal Shalorus. Or maybe it’s just ok to kick a guy in the balls a half dozen times without a point deduction if the balls are attached to Jamie Varner. I know a few people that wouldn’t mind that exception in the books.

Guys are going to get hit in the back of the head

When you give up the back of your head to hit. We shouldn’t dq guys for landing one or two illegal shots in a sequence when a guy is moving around and such.

Accidents happen

but some guys just don’t give a fuck and drop bombs. Even if Mario didn’t make the right call in hindsight, after super-duper slow motion replay, I’m glad that he has the balls to make that kind of call. I hope that he still does in the future when a more egregious offense inevitably occurs.
