PrintThis is a dream fight. I was really disappointed when they didn't coach TUF opposite each other and the previous Sonnen/Munoz vs Silva followed by the winner of Maia/Bisping fighting for the title seemed to create a scenario that the two would be unlikely to fight in the near future... but that is not the case and a fight I really wanted to see is back.
The truth is if Sonnen loses to Bisping, a big part of my interest in the MW division will die. I don't expect Sonnen/Silva II to go much differently than the first fight but I'll be damned if I ever want to see Bisping fight Silva. That's just a waste of everyone's time IMO.
I could spout about how most of my old favourites are retired or on their way out the door, but that's trivial and not important. Chael Sonnen is someone I want to see succeed. He is probably the last man in the UFC who deserves an ounce of success but I want to live in a world where Chael Sonnen can prosper.

Bisping is in trouble
I’ve been suspecting, or hoping, that Bisping would get matched against someone decent and correct his inflated record – someone like Sonnen (or even Stann maybe).
Regardless of his personality and behaviour, I find Bisping to be overrated (and his record inflated) – he is about to come crashing down to earth!

This fight is probably about as stylistically bad as you can get for Bisping. Sonnen’s wrestling is probably a bit much for him and I reckon Mike will lose. I don’t think he is overrated, but I do think Sonnen is notch above him. Having said that I thought Munoz would beat him if he had to face him too.
However, for the Bisping haters, which would be better. For him to wrestled to death slowly by Sonnen or humiliated by a new Anderson Silva wacky finish.

I don't think the answer is that clear
Getting steamrolled for 10 minutes and then finished (something like Sonnen-Stann) would shut Bisping up a lot more than him landing a few punches on Silva and getting KO’d. You know that he’d be claiming that he was winning and just got caught.
We all want to see Silva-Sonnen II, but if the unthinkable happens, I hope you’re there to buoy our crushed hearts with some Silva-Bisping imagery…

I think Bisping has decided to play up a “bad boy” role after he realised he wasn’t popular and thinks that that’s why people love to hate him.

I think Bisping pretty much has been the same guy since I’ve seen him. He really hasn’t changed, other than I think he actually tries to not be such an asshole.

Makes a lot more sense to me after the Sonnen fight, no matter who wins. Haters want Paul Harris to tear off Bisping’s leg, but I don’t see Palhares moving up that fast. Bisping will either expose Belfort, or we’ll get another Hendo style KO highlight of Bisping. WIN-WIN
Also, I don’t understand why everyone discounts Maia. Dude took a short notice title fight against Anderson Fucking Silva and lasted five rounds. Yeah, it was painful to watch, but damn, when was the last time anyone took Anderson Silva to a decision?

It's not much of an accomplishment to take Silva to a decision
He’s a counterstriker. If you don’t attack him, it’s going to be worse than the passive opponents GSP had recently. We already know that from the Leites fight.
Granted, Maia didn’t do that, and he deserves credit for trying to do something while Silva was doing god knows what for the latter half of the fight, but that’s not much of an accomplishment. People are discounting Maia because he hasn’t shown himself to be anything but a gatekeeper since beating Sonnen (which, to be honest, I doubt happens again).

But I do like the added attention both guys bring to the table because of how they talk and how many people hate them.
Bisping vs Sonnen is a huge matchup to be getting on free TV.
But in all honesty I hate Bisping more…I don’t even want him to ever be able to say he challenged for the UFC title. Sonnen all the way.
There is nothing spectacular about Bisping that is going to help him avoid the same fate that many other MWs suffered to Sonnen.

The fight with Silva made Sonnen look better than he is. It was a style match up made for him and he still lost. That being said I would expect Sonnen to beat Bisping but if Bisping could pull it out I wouldn’t say it was an upset.

In all seriousness although it’s a tough fight if Bisping does win does that not at least make him a little more legit in terms of being the number 2 in the division or the number 1 contender? Just because Anderson is very good but the rest aren’t all-time legends doesn’t make it not worth watching.
From everyone who knows Mikey Bisping, you just hear that he’s an overly competitive guy who gets pissed off in the heat of the moment, has realised that being hated can make you more relevant, but wont go out of his way to slam someone except the guy he’s fighting next. Sonnen is a world class trash talker who hates to see his name not in the news who can be funny but when he screws around when doing a genuine analysts job on mma programming just pisses me off. Probably not as bad as he sounds but too fake for me.

My real issue with him is he is a dick INSIDE the cage
He has no class when he fights. He blatantly knees his opponent and spits on his cornermen. Who the fuck does that? I don’t care how much he talks outside, everyone should be talking trash to hype their fights if they’d like to have any shred of relevance in the media but don’t be a fucking jackass and get in some guys face (Dan Miller) for absolutely no reason. Look at the staredown they had moments before the fight started, you’d think Miller raped his sister or something. Zero class.
Look at his fight with Wanderlei, finishing two rounds getting saved by the bell and almost getting finished then claiming Wanderlei “knows who won that fight”
God I hope Chael embarrasses him so he’s out of contention
If Bisping wins...
Will the hate stop? I, for one, have mad Bisping hate but I’ve had to admit he’s a tougher fighter than he gets credit for.
If Bisping beats Sonnen here on American soil, just up the road in Chicago, in fact, then it will be the first real feather in his cap, in my opinion. 100% of Bisping’s fights always have that “yeah, but” factor to them…usually, lousy judging, often on British soil, even if the judges aren’t all Brits. Beating Sonnen makes him legit.
Good thing I know he won’t.
