Forget about Aldo moving up in weight, that's not going to happen
via e.imguol.com
Prior to UFC 142 in Rio, Aldo appeared to be fine with the idea of moving up in weight while talking to Terra Esportes:
It’s been a while that I’ve been saying that I should move up (in weight), to test myself in the above division. But Dedé (Pederneiras) is the one who decides that. When they think it’s the right moment I’ll move up.
But his trainer didn’t seem like he’d concede to that idea:
We don’t think about changing divisions, the focus is all directed to Chad Mendes (right now). When this fight is over, we’ll start thinking about the next (fight). To be honest, I don’t see him moving up in weight, no.
Well, the fight is over and Dede doesn’t seem to have changed his mind:
He’s not going to be moving up in weight for now, unless if it’s for the title, then it’s okay. But to give up his title and to fight his way in the division above his? Forget it. If it’s up to me that’s not going to happen. Unless he goes train somewhere else and someone allows him to do that, I’m not going to allow him to do that.

When’s the last time Aldo faced someone that was bigger than him at 145? His last three opponents were all much smaller than him.
Florian, his LAST opponent. and brown.

Good point, forgot about Florian. Then again, he all skin and bones, and definitely not as strong as Aldo.
I suppose my point was that Mendes looked noticeably smaller than Aldo. Mendes looked like a 135’er in there against Aldo.
Really?
I didn’t think Mendes looked that much smaller.

I did.
It was surprising considering Mendes usually dwarfs his opponents.

Makes sense, if it's not for the title then why bother?

Silva tested the waters at LHW with Irvin and Forrest
without relinquishing his MW title. I’m sure the UFC would be happy to let Aldo do the same thing, against a high-profile, mid- to upper-tier LW.

I thought Anderson did that because they didn't have a proper challenger lined up at MW
Sounds like Dede is addressing a permanent move up into LW.

A fight with a name guy in 155
could definetely raise his profile.

actually
the UFC gave an ultimatum to Silva to either stay at MW or go full time to LHW, Silva chose to stay at MW that’s why he’s no longer fighting people at LHW.
I call you, I talk to me - Anderson Silva
I thought he stayed away from MW out of deference to Machida
either way, don’t you think they’d let Aldo take a couple fights at 155 before deciding?

he did
he felt he had too many friends/training partners in that division to make a run for the title, so he decided to stay at MW. I’m not sure they’d allow Aldo to do the same thing Silva did though, the only reason Silva went up was by request of the UFC, the first to counter Affliction when he fought Irvin and the second was the UFC trying to punish Silva for the Leites fight.

thats a really weird punishment

I think it backfired on them, I think they really thought Silva was going to get beat or put on some bigger efforts during that fight haha
I call you, I talk to me - Anderson Silva
it seemed like they were punishing Forrest, from the outcome of the fight lol

Do you know that it was a punishment? I thought that the UFC decided to put Anderson in there with Forest because it was a favorable stylistic match up for fireworks. They had two stars and it was pretty much a win win for the UFC. (Mainly because if Anderson lost, he could chalk it up to weight difference).
jeez man, can’t a guy have an opinion nowadays? Dana made the move after the Leites fight, said something in the lines of “let’s try to see him try to pull that shit with Forrest”. Dana was pissed at Silva, that much is a fact. I’m sure it wasn’t a reward… but sure, it was a win-win for the UFC, most fights are.

I think I'll agree
Forrest is the perfect opponent style wise for Silva to style on, and definitely has enough name recognition to up his star power after the public kind of turned on him.

Actually I think your opinions are really valuable Orcus. To me you represent “the Brazilian View Point” haha. Sorry I came across sorta forceful there :p
not at all brother
I also nitpick people’s opinion’s every now and then, I am just tasting my own venom :p

He should def stay at 145
And clean that out – he’s only fought 3 times since moving over from WEC. And there are a few interesting challengers around – Koch, Poirier, KZ
I agree, I think there is an interesting mix of guys for him to fight. Don’t forget the Bartimus/Hioki winner, Alcantara, Nunes (I know they are teammates, but I think they would fight for the title), and now Siver. There are a lot of potential challengers for Aldo at FW over the next 12-18 months.
Siver?
For River’s sake, I hope he never makes featherweight title contention.

Brandão? Really?
I can’t see him doing anything with Aldo. It would be a very short night.

I don’t find it necessary for Aldo to move up in weight. He has been having great success at Featherweight. The argument is that no fighter on the horizon at Featherweight can really challenge Aldo, and while I do agree with that, it’s just a product of a dominant champion. There are challengers like KZ, Koch, Poirier, Hioki, Nunes and others coming up like Brandao, Alcantara, and Pearson, so there’s no shortage of challengers for Aldo, but it’s just that no one views them as viable threats.

He should go up to fight Frankie/Bendo, or whoever is holding the belt, for a superfight.

I'm good with this
A superfight with Edgar would be a total waste right now. You can’t have a superfight between nobodies.
Exactly
They need to build Also up before he moves up to challenge for the belt at 155. By that time I doubt Edgar is still champ.

I don't get it?
Who ever said Aldo would leave 145 for 155 for anything other then the title. That’s always been the case and talked about. A title fight with Edger. No one was saying, " yeah Aldo should move to 155 and work his way up". Thats just stupid. If he moved up, he would get a title shot right away.

the mere fact that questions were raised to Aldo and Dede
means people are asking about him moving in weight, not particularly for a title fight only, otherwise quotes about it wouldn’t exist.
I call you, I talk to me - Anderson Silva
instead of 155 why not jose vs dominick cruz as the super weight that would put both of those weights on notice for a minute i mean i know jose would win but still i like that better than him changing weights all together so quickly

No, they are going to slowly let Cruz become the most dominant fighter in MMA history
With a total of 14 defenses between the WEC and UFC with 7 of those defenses being to Urijah Faber.

so then
he would be the most dominate fighter against Uriah Faber in history?

I think Faber can beat cruz most of the time
and the UFC is praying for a finisher or atleast likeable face for that division and Faber is both (Aldo’s soul crushing kicks and brown being huge aside) as far as Aldo is concerned casuals still don’t know his division exists, Rio was his coming out party for the casuals i think he sits pretty clearing out FW for atleast another year before he gets that superfight
