i really cant see ppl can agree with this call in any way. except for one shot it’s clear that the target of Sivla’s shots are to the side of the head and to the face.

Some refs call the mohawk illegal, some call the earmuffs illegal. There were a few good earmuffs and maybe two mohawk strikes.

The general level of leniency towards this sort of thing in MMA is atrocious.

So a DQ is a horrible call. Even more, guys are going to get hit in the back of the head. By the time a legal strike is committed to, your opponent might have moved and made it an illegal strike.

And lastly, the fight wasn’t stopped, Silva docked a point, then asked his opponent if he could continue. It wasn’t stopped for an injury either. It was stopped and then Silva was retroactively disqualified.

Horrible angle,

Can’t really get a good look at Prater’s head,

But a couple of those shots look to be illegal whether you use the mohawk or earmuff rule.
I think the problem is just how blatantly Silva was punching downward when Prater had pushed his head into Silva’s side to go for the takedown.
The angle is really bad, but it somewhat looks like shots to the back to the head caused Prater to give up the takedown attempt. We all know, Erick had the win in the bag and at the worst this fight should be a NC, but there is a case for DQ
