Royler Gracie Awarded Red and Black Belt
Jim Hannan's facebook page has posted the above picture, announcing that Royler Gracie has been awarded his Red and Black belt by his brother Rickson Gracie.
The Red and Black belt is awarded when a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student has reached the 7th degree on his black belt. Degrees on a black belt are awarded for years spent as an instructor and take decades to earn. (more on belt rankings)
Royler Gracie is the son of BJJ co-founder Helio Gracie. Leader of the legendary grappling school Gracie Humaita, Royler won the first four BJJ Pena weight World Championships and two ADCC gold medals. He is also the coach of several world champions including Saulo Ribeiro, Leticia Ribeiro, and Beatriz Mesquita.
Congrats to Royler! He is a true master.

“Royler, by way of a possibly fluke loss, gave a Machado BB his entire career.”
Good for Royler. His book with Renzo is awesome.

is there a place to go
to find a complete breakdown of Black/Red and high level Black belts, and the level of elite competitors in BJJ/Grappling/MMA???
I’m sure there is somewhere on the internet, but can someone point me in the correct direction?

Honestly, there is no complete breakdown of red/black belts out there. There have been attempts, but nobody keeps up with it long enough for the lists to be comprehensive. Most of the red/blacks are down in Brazil where record keeping isn’t the highest priority and many have zero digital presence at all.
What do you mean by “level of elite competitors”?

I don't believe in belts
There should be no ranking system for toughness

not ranking for toughness
belts are awarded for knowledge collected and ability to use that knowledge

It would depend on how technically it was executed.
"Nothin' wrong with an ass whuppin' every now and then. You take away the ass whuppin's and what do you get? You get people wearin' pants below their belly buttons. I'm tellin' you, you go out these days and see the crack of a young lady's butt. It's crazy, man. They should be locked up for indecent exposure. Look here. See? Suspenders! And a belt! I ain't takin' no chances."
I just purchased one of those belts on eBay the other day...
I’m not completely satisfied though… It didn’t increase my grappling skills as much I thought it would… Freakin eBay.
