Paul-daley

Paul Daley is at it again. The BAMMA 7 weigh-ins went down today in Birmingham, England, and Daley tipped the scales at a hefty 176 pounds. He has two hours to get down to the contracted welterweight limit of 171. Daley is scheduled to meet Jordan Radev on tomorrow's card.

Update via MMA Weekly: "Despite being given two hours to drop the weight, Daley reportedly refused. But while Radev’s camp was initially hesitant, Radev eventually decided that he would accept a catchweight fight with Daley at 176 pounds, despite the Brit’s history of missing weight."

JESUS MAN

Daley needs a nutritionist, or a cutting coach or something. Because god damn.. this is a problem for him. He’s muscular and has broad shoulders, but it’s not like he’s huge for welterweight anyways. He would be a downright puny middleweight.

exactly what I always thought

Daley isn’t big. He just lazy.

I don't think it's lazy so much as stubborn/ narrow minded.

Having seen Daley in real life, trust me, he is one stocky motherf’’cker.

I have no idea.

Does it matter?

Half the damn card missed weight.

by Steve4192 on Sep 9, 2011 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it does a little. As a fighter do you really expect to lose 5lbs day of weigh in?

Better yet, if you were Paul Daley, who has a history of being over weight, dont you think to maybe not risk having to cut 5lbs day of weigh ins.

You might stop drinking water the day before the weigh ins, but that’s it man.

10 guys missed their initial weigh in.

Unlike Daley, they chose to be responsible professionals, continued cutting, and made weight two hours later

by Steve4192 on Sep 9, 2011 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Well…..when you say " Does it matter? Half the damn card missed weight. "…….you act like Daley should be let off the hook……and now, you admit that 10 guys are professional fighters and apparently Daley is not in your opinion.

Make up your farking mind. Or better yet, go along with the rest of us and admit Daley is a clown and don’t make excuses for the dude.

Well…..he said he enjoys bashing on Daley as much as the next guy. But apparently not. The next guy in line….me……really loves bashing this clown. Steve4192 has to channel his inner DaleyBash if he wants to throw around loose statements like that. I need to hear him get in a good one on Portly Paul before I will let this rest.

by Snake_Pliskan on Sep 9, 2011 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

personally I still wouldn't blame Paul..

If the saunas didn’t work then that’s Bamma’s responsibility

if you are seriously dehydrated, why should you keep cutting because of a fuck-up out of your control

by Capo_Ultra on Sep 9, 2011 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Check the time stamps.

I made my initial flurry of posts before the second weigh in. There was no reason to jump down Daley’s throat before that weigh in. Now that he has refused to make the second cut, I’ll gladly pick up a torch and a pitchfork.

by Steve4192 on Sep 9, 2011 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

As I understand it, last time they got booted out of the hotel sauna because other patrons complained about the fighters hogging it. This time, BAMMA set up a special ‘fighters only’ sauna and it conked out. I’m looking forward to seeing what wacky shenanigans happen next time.

Is that on the first attempt, or the second?

The brits on the UG were reporting that 10 missed their first attempt, and that everyone was given an additional hour to cut weight. I haven’t been following how the second attempts have gone.

That doesn’t seem very realistic to me. But maybe I’m just misinformed on weight cutting.

by Mustardfinger on Sep 9, 2011 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

The excuse would be passable if he didn’t have a LONG history of missing weight. Even if true, nobody cares about excuses at this point.

by Empty Thoughts on Sep 9, 2011 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea ’im a fan and I cant defend him on this. Sure things happen but if your that guy thats always missing weight you should be backing yourself up to make sure you get it right,

by Mustardfinger on Sep 9, 2011 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Pretty much my point.

If you are the guy with the history of missing, then you need to be coming in as close to weight as possible. You need to be forgetting about the Bamma gym getting fixed and head down to the local health club if it comes to that. You need to do whatever it takes to be that one guy on the entire card who did make weight just so your detractors can’t detract.

He is to good of a fighter to have all of the drama around him.

Just on this alone.

I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

by SSreporters on Sep 9, 2011 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

I think he doesnt care cause its BAMMA

cause he seems to make weight in the more high profile matches he has including UFC and Strikeforce and I think he would have tried for the BAMMA title if the sauna didnt break, i remember him saying that they had to go looking around the Manchester to use another sauna. But i think making weight for smaller promotions he see’s it as something that he would try to do but if he has to cut a lot in a small amount of time (completely his own doing) hes defiantly not going to put the extra effort in cause the promotion is still gonna give him another fight because of his reputation for putting on exciting fights

Before he fought Nick I was thinking, hey, he could fashion a pretty nice career for himself considering…So I was interested in his first BAMMA fight…

But at this point I feel like he just isn’t relevant. I’m way more interested in seeing if Frank Trigg can get it done and that’s saying something.

All these, uh, dealmakers making deals. Ya know, I don't, all I know is I'm ready to fight so, ya know, I'm sorry I didn't make it to the beauty pageant.

1 fight? More like

1 occurance of missing weight in his first BAMMA fight
2 losses in a row
A second occurance of missing weight in his second BAMMA fight

Winning a fight where you couldn’t make weight taints the victory, in my opinion…and losing fights certainly does you no favors.

The last time he won and was on weight was against Smith, I believe.
