Amidst all the hubbub yesterday surrounding Nick Diaz being yanked from the UFC 137 main event against Georges St. Pierre, and replaced by Carlos Condit, the UFC was also busy locking in the order for the rest of the October 29th card. Today, we have a report from MMA Junkie that the prelim broadcast on Spike has been solidified with Donald Cerrone vs. Dennis Siver and Tyson Griffin vs. Bart Palaszewski. It thus appears that the UFC does have plans to add a new co-main event to the card, probably involving B.J. Penn, as Cerrone-Siver was a no-brainer to bump up to the PPV card if Penn was to be scrapped from the event altogether.
Cerrone has served as a short-notice replacement in two of his three UFC fights, but he's found a dominant path to victory in all of them, impressing many as he's gone undefeated in the Octagon, most recently over the highly-touted Charles Oliveira. Siver, meanwhile, may be on the cusp of a title shot with his four-fight winning streak, but his strength of schedule in those four fights may be of some concern, as none of his opponents, except for George Sotiropoulos, were anywhere close to a title shot.
Tyson Griffin will look to repeat the success he had in his first 145 lb. UFC fight back in March, when he won a majority decision over Manny Gamburyan (Griffin competed at 145 lbs earlier in his career). The win snapped a potentially devastating three-fight losing streak for the 4-time fight-of-the-night bonus winner. Palaszewski will be making his UFC debut after a 10 year career on the midwest circuit and with other notable promotions including the IFL and WEC. "Bartimus" saw a four-fight winning streak of his own, snapped by Kamal Shalorus in a split decision loss at the final WEC event back in December of last year.
