Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem Betting Odds Up

LAS VEGAS - JULY 03: Brock Lesnar reacts after his second round submission victory against Shane Carwin to win the UFC Heavyweight Championship Unification bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 3 2010 in Las Vegas Nevada. (Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

The fight announcement is hardly an hour old, and Bodog already has a line up for the December 30 clash between former UFC champion Brock Lesnar and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem. Bodog has Lesnar and Overeem as a pick'em, and you'll need to lay -115 on either side to account for the vig.

Given concerns about how Lesnar reacts to getting punched in the face, I expect the early action to come in on Overeem.

Lesnar is returning from his latest bout with diverticulitis. When he steps into the cage with Overeem, he'll have been out of action for fourteen months. Lesnar last fought Cain Velasquez at UFC 121, dropping his heavyweight title after in the first round by TKO.

Overeem defeated Fabricio Werdum by unanimous decision in the opening round of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. The bout was largely uninspired, and, after turning down a date in September with Antonio Silva, Overeem was dropped from the tournament and released from Strikeforce.

[UpdateBookmaker opened their line at Overeem -135, Lesnar +105.

Pretty sure Lesnar/JDS ended around a similar line.

That’s tough to say. If Lesnar can get the takedowns and top control, he can easily tire Overeem out and probably even get the stoppage. However, besides not taking hits well, another thing going against Lesnar is the layoff and coming off of major surgery. I think that Overeem’s best chance of winning this is within the first two rounds, but after that, I question Overeem’s gas tank which will make it that much easier for Lesnar to get the takedown. I do have Overeem winning this, but Lesnar’s wrestling could be a huge difference maker.

Reem by KO but....

I can see both of these guys gassing out and Brock laying on him for a five round decision

Is it confirmed as 5 rds?

I like the feeling of hunting down what I feed my family. If there’s a beast out there capable of hunting down Brock Lesnar, he would do it and make me the trophy on his den wall. It’s a main event. It’s 5 rounds

Hmmm

That Brock line could move a lot more.

1. Anderson Silva is waiting for you to punch him.
2. That guy is Anderson Silva.
3. Don't fucking punch that guy.

I'd lay a lot on Brock.

What everyone needs to do is calm down, take a deep breath, and prepare their bodies for the Thunderdome.

I wouldn't

until the line got closer to +200. It’s been a long layoff.

1. Anderson Silva is waiting for you to punch him.
2. That guy is Anderson Silva.
3. Don't fucking punch that guy.

I meant when the money comes in on Overeem, of course.

What everyone needs to do is calm down, take a deep breath, and prepare their bodies for the Thunderdome.

Reem by TKO. I don’t think Brock will have gotten over his extreme phobia of getting hit during his lengthy lay-off.

Brock>Fedor

Say what you will about Lesnar but he never backs down from a fight even if he goes in there and gets his ass kicked. I hope he beats Overreem.

And Fedor backed down when Fujita damn near took his head off and Randleman superplexed him (for realsies)?

Not sure if trolling or just ig’nant.

This fight is a good way to test if American medicine is as great as Brock says it is. Because if they didn’t sew him up good, those gut-busting Uberknees are going to have Overeem winning by massive abdominal internal bleeding and eventual septicemia.

A k-1 Champion is a bad match up for a fighter that is so adverse to getting hit.

so is a phenomenal striker that hasn’t faced a quality caliber wrestler.
