The UFC held a press conference last week to announce the main event of Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos for the first show on Fox. The UFC confirmed that the Fox show would only air the title fight, leaving the airing of the rest of the card in question. Spike won't air the undercard hyping the main event on Fox and neither will Versus/NBC Sports. This means that the card will likely only be aired on Facebook only. With no other fights announced, some suspected the UFC was going all in on Fox and the rest of the card would be filled with mid-card fodder. Today, along with the MASSIVE announcement of Brock Lesnar vs Alistair Overeem on December 30th, we finally know the co-main event for November 12th.
Another fight breaking: Within the last hour, verbal agreements reached for Clay Guida to face Ben Henderson at UFC on Fox on Nov. 12. #MMA
This fight is a logical choice for number one contender at lightweight. Both Henderson and Guida have been on a roll as of late and they have been looking dominant in doing so. Hopefully the UFC can find time to air this fight on Fox as it potentially holds more significance in the long term than any other co-main event currently booked. It also will be one of the most exciting lightweight fights as both fighters "bring it" every time they step into the cage.
The only issue with this is that the UFC and Fox have allotted one hour for this first event. Only having a one hour window limits their ability to show more than one fight and since the contract with Spike isn't up until New Year's Day, they won't be able to air the rest of the card on FX or FuelTV. Hopefully they have worked out a system to air the rest of the card without resorting to Facebook.
