And so it begins: Nick Diaz skips 137 media event

Didn't see this posted and thought it'd be a nice little afternoon morsel for the rabid Diaz haters to chew on.

I suppose that media for UFC 137 has begun, as it seems that GSP was at a press conference in Toronto today.  The catch? He was there by himself.

Major Canadian sporting news outlet TSN reported that Diaz was an unexplained absentee from the conference.

Under normal circumstances this sort of behavior from Diaz would be completely unsurprising. During his run in Strikeforce the champion skipped numerous media events and he has gone on record saying that he hates to miss any training time at all, especially to hype up a fight in front of media types. When you consider that today's event was in Toronto and Diaz is already scheduled to attend a UFC 137 press conference tomorrow in Vegas it makes it almost a no-brainer that he wasn't going to be there.

Where the story gets interesting though is the fact that this time he is once again fighting in the UFC, something Dana White said was not going to happen if Diaz doesn't "play the game, just a little bit". It would have looked really good if he had shown up at both events, said all the right things, maybe even got in Georges face a little bit to whet our appetites. Instead it seems we are simply picking up where we last left off with Diaz: Catering to no one, playing the game the way he wants to play it.

Of course, he could easily have gotten permission from Dana to miss the conference, making this a complete non story. What do you think? Will he be skip out on tomorrow as well? Is the build up to this fight going to feature equal amounts of drama between Diaz and GSP and Diaz his new boss? Personally I think that this is just a blip on the radar and we'll be treated to quite a nice presser tomorrow, but the questions have to at least be asked.
