UFC and Pride veteran Akihiro Gono is close to signing with Asian promotion One FC, as is prospect Fransino Tirta. Gono has been out of MMA for over a year now, but is looking to return. MMA Weekly has the news:
While neither signing has been confirmed by One FC, MMAWeekly.com sources indicated that both Gono and Tirta attended the inaugural show in Singapore and have been in conversation with CEO Victor Cui.
It’s likely both could end up on the promoton’s roster.
Gono (32-16-7) hasn't fought in MMA since making his lightweight debut in Sengoku last August. He dropped a decision to Jadamba Narantungalag in that bout. Gono, long known for his elaborate and humorous ring entrances, has been staying active though, competing in kickboxing and Muay Thai.
Tirta (10-0-1) is an undefeated rising prospect in Asia and hails from Jakarta, Indonesia. The featherweight has finished nine of his ten victories and most recently picked up a decision victory over Chengjie Wu on a Legend FC card in Macau in July.
