Anderson vs GSP @ UFC 141
Could it happen? If GSP beats Diaz soundly, would anyone be surprised if Anderson and GSP squared off for the NYE show at a catch weight, perhaps 177.5?

Does it make any sense for them to fight anyone else if they are both ready for the NYE show? This is basically a fight that defines this generation of MMA. Similar to Don Frye vs Tank Abbott or Sakuraba vs Royce Gracie or BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar or Wandy vs Japan.

NO.
First, there is no way GSP does a 2 month turn around. The fastest he’s ever done is a 3 month turn around and he’s only done that twice in his whole career and that was back in 04-05.Second if/when the UFC ever decides to put it together I think they’re gonna want no less than 4 months and probably 6 months to try and really market it.
Also all I will say about a New Year’s Eve card is good luck. I know it works in Japan but over here I would say a majority of the UFC’s target audience is either a) out at a bar, b) over at a friend’s house, or c) hosting a party at their own house. And in my expierence the tv maybe on but most people are not watching it until the countdown to midnight.
Maybe if they did something with FOX or an earlier time it could work somewhat but yeah outside of the hardcore fans I dont see many people wanting to dish out 55 dollars for a PPV on New Year’s Eve.

New Years Day,
or some stretch inbetween Christmas day and the day before NYE could work though.
That said, you’re absolutely right- GSP won’t go for that kind of turn around. Even if they do the fight at a catchweight, Georges will want to rest after the Diaz fight, and then take a month or 2 just to pack on raw muscle.

i think the catchweight idea is the best.
didnt anderson weigh in at 183 for the okami drubbing?
as the poster above stated though, too quick of a turnaround.

I do too.
Anderson isn’t a huge middleweight like some people claim. Think about the fact that he’s the same height as Alan Belcher, then compare their physiques (Belcher is THICK, Ando is lanky), and try to say that Anderson is a giant middleweight.
He weighed in for Leites at 182, and could definitely make a 177.5 (ish) catchweight. Makes the most sense to do it right in the middle, to be fair.

GSP does not want to move up in weight. He is not just risk averse in his fighting, he is risk averse in his career too. He has little to gain and a lot to lose in fighting Silva. I hope I am wrong but this fight will NEVER happen.
"I think he doesn't accept punches very well. I don't know why." - JDS speaking of Brock Lesnar
Add that to the fact that Silva is well rounded enough to challenge him in all areas
And that he has better strength and speed. If these guys were a little more similar in weight, this fight would be interesting, but it just seems a little unfair for GSP.
Anderson Silva is, and forever will be the greatest of all time.
Where can I buy my Cerrone cowboy hat?
I think they are going to do a a new years show in Abu Dabi this year
It will be live here in the states at 11 am mtn time. or so. It makes sense, since most people will be out celebrating at night,

i hope that the fight will eventually happen, but there is no way that GSP could fight on the dec 31st card after fighting nick diaz
the new years show will most likely be headlined by Brock against Mir or Overeem
Not going to happen
GSP is (rightly) very hesitant to do this, as Silva will most likely tool him with the height advantage. A better match would be Silva vs Bones, IMHO.

I can't believe
you’d be all right with Anderson jumping Fitch for a shot at GSP.
