Nice interview
Regarding GSP, he’s absolutely right about Serra having nothing to do with safety. GSP had some of his most vicious fights after that loss.
I don’t agree about GSP not going for the kill after hurting an opponent, though. He went for the kill against Fitch each time he rocked him, he went for the kill against Alves when he dropped him, he went after it against Shields when he dropped him.
The problems is that he never really ‘hurt’ them. Against Hardy, that was his fault for abandoning damage, but Shields and Koscheck never got dizzy/rocked. I don’t know how Koscheck took that much damage without getting rocked, but Shields was just able to eat everything and stay composed, and even after the headkick he was able to grab a leg.
No, it’s not a lack of killer instinct after a guy is hurt. It’s GSP not being able to hurt his last few opponents in the first place. Kos was in serious pain, but not hurt, if that makes sense. He clearly has the power even in his jab, with enough momentum to crush Koscheck’s face and launch Shields’ whole body 5-10 feet away, but he doesn’t have the Silva touch of making that jab scramble your brain.
