This main card blows ass
Three good fights and then two low-level HWs.
And the Spike prelims are uninteresting.
I’ll be damned if someone tells me that the weakest cards tend to deliver the best fights.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.

Main Event: Solid
Co-Main: Solid-ish
Broughton vs. Browne – HW prospect with KO power but no quality wins other than Struve. Broughton is British.
Diaz vs. Gomi – Good fight but both are on a bad run of form.
Rothwell vs. Hunt – Seriously? I hope Hunt gets the KO but this isn’t a UFC Main Card fight.
Nick Ring is average and got away with the biggest robbery of 2011. Tony Ferguson is more TUF fodder that fails to inspire.
But it’s okay. UFC on Versus 6 to the end of the year is the real deal so I can handle this.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.
When you put it like that I agree with you now.
The only really two SPECTACULAR fights are Hughes and Jones.

More eager to see Hughes/Kos than Hughes/Sanchez
The latter felt like a blatant attempt to give Sanchez a title shot.
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.
Exactly, and if Hughes wins this he's back in the mix.
Possibly a 3rd contender because the WW division’s top 5 is getting thin these days. Loser of GSP vs Condit should face Hughes next year.

I made it sound better than it was.
Koscheck is a high rank and so is Hughes. So I figured Hughes would AT LEAST take Koscheck’s spot . And make him at least relevant again.

I kind of get
what you are saying when you look at WW there are some familiar names lingering at the top…
if things don’t fall right we might be looking at Penn vs. GSP 3…
If Hughes does win, which I don’t think he will, then I guess he could fight Ellenberger…? I’d rather Kos win and face him though…

What's wrong with Travis Browne?
Broughton is meh and the matchup doesn’t make much sense but Browne is a main card fighter by now.

And Broughton fight Hunt on Facebook.

That’s hard to argue with. But Hunt has that mystique that people love, I’m not surprised it’s on PPV. Plus, even if they suck, casuals love the big guys.

Ring vs Boetsch is a pretty sweet spike prelim match-up
Ring is very legitimate prospect with pro kickboxing experience, who beat the eventual winner of TUF 11 before pulling out, and destroyed his most recent opponent. The Barbarian looked like an animal after dropping to 185 and there is a good chance that if you don’t like Ring that he will be slammed into oblivion anyway.

"Fitch has to be up there too"
Well those must be the ones who want him to rematch GSP. ;)
I respect your opinion even though it's wrong.
I don't think the Jones hate is irrational
As for people hoping for Anderson and GSP to lose, I can see how people would root for a shake up at the top. Dominant champions are great but fresh blood at the top is interesting too. This type of rooting doesn’t strike me as irrational at all.
I think a lot of the details are
I get that people think Jones is cocky and perhaps even two-faced but the details of the complaints often leave me scrunching my face, saying “Really?” at my monitor as I read them.
"Complacency is your demise." - Kerry King
I mean I guess there are always going to be people with crazy reasons
but for the most part people root against Jones because he doesn’t come off as the easiest guy to root for. I can see arguments both for and against being a Jones fan, but to call it irrational to be rooting for his opponents is wrong.
That’s why I want GSP to lose with all my heart. I think the title has made him into a ‘safe’ fighter and a loss would not only shake up the division but also shake him up and possible bring back the GSP who used to go all out. Instead of simply is dominate.

He did a bit of it in the Fitch fight,
but besides that, GSP hasn’t really come out like a house on fire and mauled anybody since 2005 against Sherk, Miller, and Trigg. He shitkicked those guys with aggression, pressure, power, volume, and awesomeness. He’s never going to be that fighter again.

He totally did.
But it wasn’t what made him “Rush” back in the day. He held against the fense to tire him out, then he beat the shit out of him when he was tired. It was a great performance, but it’s not that barnburner from the bell shitkicking he used to do. That guy, Rush, isn’t coming back.

wait now....
tiring your opponent with superior grappling before mounting an offense is also looked down upon by MMA fans ? lol where does it stop ? like when every fight ends with flash KO’s, spinning back fists, and flying knees ?

"Someone is WRONG on the internet. What do you want me to do? LEAVE? Then they'll keep being wrong!"
-Randall Munroe
yes you did...
and then followed by saying that his tactic of tiring BJ before going for the kill wasn’t as admirable, wasn’t like “rush”, while that may be true, what i am saying is, fans these days are getting way too obsessive with the spectacle aspect of this sport, anything short of a flashy finish is deemed mediocre.

i didnt say you literally called it less admirable, did i, all i got from your comment was that his performance at 94 wasn’t as impressive as vintage rush because he held BJ against the fence, my bad if i didn’t get it, but i sure aint making stuff up.
by Illuminaughty on Sep 18, 2011 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions
All he's saying is that GSP is not the "IMGOINGTOFUCKINGMURDERYOU" guy as he was before
He still did great in the BJ fight, but not the spectacle of old.
Business as Usual has a STACKED team. I mean, we could win with just me, but you know.
You are counting winning the title there I expect right? Because he only beat Serra and BJ by finish as far as I recall. Guessing so. But anyways, yeah like I said he has been dominate in all of his fights for a long time. He hasn’t though shown a true killer instinct in years though. He has instead found where a fighter is weakest and been content to keep the fight in that area for as long as he can.
Seriously though, I’m not hating on GSP. He is one of the best fighters in the world and been on a tear of domination, he though has lost that killer instinct and it shows. Back in the day he was the guy who would dominate a fight and then finish said fight. Today he is the guy who will dominate the fight and then never give up position to finish the fight. Even when he ‘tries’ to do that, he still can’t commit himself to doing it. (ala the Hardy sub attempts)

I want Condit to beat GSP because the Ellenberger rematch would carry so much heat to me.
And that’s a fight that needs a rematch anyways. As for Anderson, I don’t like the dude. But imagine that division without him. Chael Sonnen would have had to beat Marquardt over 5 rounds. Okami would put up a real title fight. Demian Maia would be a legit threat to the title. Brian Stann might even be champion. Mark Munoz could have his title fight in the Philippines. Michael Bisping might crack open the UK market by being their first champion. It would be so much more interesting than “Who is the next fodder for Shiva, destroyer of worlds?”

This is true.
While it’s awesome watching GSP and Anderson show off their extraordinary skills…. It makes the division stagnant. Part of the whole excitement about watching MMA, is anything can happen at any moment. “That’s why they fight”, as Goldie would say. Such a dumbass saying. But there’s no suspense in watching people repeatedly beat opponents that are nowhere on the same talent level. It’s like watching the Packers play a high school team over and over. They’ll probably have some awesome plays to ooh and ahh over, but you already know what the end result is going to be every time.

The funny thing is,
without Anderson being a man among boys at MW, the division would look fairly deep and stacked, and the title would change hands ofter…
Then again, without Anderson there, some combination of Fitch, Kos, Shields, GSP, Rumble, Daley, Rashad and Lyoto would likely be there too…

Tiger Woods, Federer, Patriots, FC Barcelona, All Blacks….? There’s always a sizeable subset of fans who get sick of the same team/athlete being on top all the time, and since said team/athlete is going to get the lion’s share of media exposure, anything dislikeable about them is going to get much more play and irritate more people.

I’m pretty sure Rothwell is gonna try to muscle him against the cage, take him down and gnp or look for submission, but I’m gonna be all out screaming for a Hunt KO. War Hunt. WAR!!!

Well you see
When Jones does anything, like say he thinks he’s going to beat one Mauricio Shogun Rua, it is arrogant for him to do so. In fact, it is arrogant for him to make jokes, take interviews, throw flashy strikes, think he is the LHW champion or even think he is good at fighting. This poster clearly indicates that he needs to be humbled.
Not afraid to nitpick
Jones looks a little bit like Usain Bolt in that picture

when was the last time rampage finished a fight ? he couldn’t even land anything on hamill, what are the odds he will land on a guy with the longest reach in the division, i see a T kick followed by hellbows to the face in rampage’s future.

Also, gotta agree with whoever said Browne and Rothwell should be squaring off against each other and Hunt/Broughton should be on the aired prelims.
