UFC Veteran Mike Whitehead Takes Plea Deal in Sexual Assault Case

It hasn't exactly been a banner week for former UFC fighters facing legal trouble. Joe Son was recently sentenced for his participation in a gang rape and now Mike Whitehead, a former Ultimate Fighter cast member and loser to Keith Jardine at UFC 57, will be taking a plea deal on a sexual assault charge. Via MMA Fighting:
MMA veteran Mike Whitehead is expected to be sentenced to probation after pleading guilty under the Alford doctrine to a charge of attempted sexual assault in Nevada.

Whitehead will not be sentenced until January 19, 2012. According to the Las Vegas Sun, he is expected to receive probation, but could receive a prison term of up to 20 years.
According to the Sun, the victim told police that she and a friend had visited Whitehead's home for a barbecue and stayed there after drinking.
Whitehead reportedly told the women they could sleep in his bed. One of the women said she awoke some time later to find her pants down and Whitehead having sex with her. According to the police report, she asked him to stop, but he continued for three minutes before stopping.
Personally, I think getting probation and not actually having to admit guilt while only taking the "attempted" charge is getting off incredibly light for Whitehead. But maybe that's just me.

Not at all.
From the facts that Brent has provided, a plea makes no sense unless the victim agreed to that. Typically they throw the book at guys in Mike’s position.
I just think there’s more to this story than what has been shared here.

Rape cases are INCREDIBLY hard to get convictions in
It’s his word against hers, she had a lot to drink. Plea deals in rape cases are so common it’s ridiculous.

Sounds pretty guilty.
Hopefully he at least has to register in as an offender – that is at least some type of punishment.

When you plead guilty, you admit guilt. So when he makes that deal he is “admitting” to attempting to sexually assault her in exchange for a reduced sentence.

Part of it is just expediency
They take lesser sentences so that the family of the next victim can start trial and move on with their lives. If your friend’s killer went to trial it might have dragged on for years, and the offender might even not have to be in jail during the trial.

ok so
they drank… got in bed started having sex and after a while she said no.. and claimed rape.
COuld be a big range of guilt here and the consideration of her ulterior motives cant be overlooked. I know most of the BE readers cant relate to this sequence of events from a male perspective, but cease fire on the self righteous convictions with a pinch of the facts
