He's right,
Shields isn’t appreciably better than Condit or Rocha.

Rocha has gnarly sweeps and submissions,
Condit’s mat game is incredibly active, and obviously his striking is top notch.
Jake still punches like a girl standing and on the ground, still doesn’t have a finishing mount, still doesn’t have outstanding wrestling.

Condit’s wrestling is bad, and Rocha’s standup is worse than Jake’s. I think Jake has outstanding MMA wrestling and extremely impressive grappling. He does lack fanish from mount though, a few guys have exploited it to escape.

Condit's wrestling is passable.
Not elite, or even above average, but it’s not horrible either.
And I would consider Rocha’s striking to be no more ineffectual than Shields’.

Condit got taken down by Rory MacDonald simply holding his ankle. Condit’s takedown defense and base have never been that good, and saying that it’s horrible really isn’t a stretch. His offensive wrestling may be average, but his takedown defense has never been that great. He’s great at scrambling and sweeps, so he doesn’t worry to much about getting taken down.
With Rocha’s and Shields’ striking, I would have them about even. I really think the eye pokes really hindered GSP from doing that well against Shields.

Sure, his takedowns are better than his takedown defense,
but as i said- his overall wrestling is passable.
The eye pokes definitely fucked Georges up. For the first 2, 3 rounds he was landing consistently and comprehensively shutting Jake out. Even in the 4’th round he dropped Shields with a high kick.

Please refer to them as Sheilds or Ellenberger
I got confused reading that.
I think Ellenberger stops almost every TD attempt and outstrikes Sheilds for a decision or late (T)KO
I guess I'm in the mix. ZWO GON' WIN THIS THANG
I think I agree with you.
There’s no shame losing to GSP. Shields is still elite.

How close was the Ellenberger-Condit fight actually?

Pretty close. Rnd 1 was all Ellenberger. Rnd 2 was close and Rnd 3 was Condits

I had it a draw.
And I think it illustrates why 10-8 scores should be used more freely. Ellenberger smashed Condit in the first round, a lot of lesser refs would have stopped it. The last two rounds were competitive with Condit definitely winning them. But the quality of his offense was not on par with the first, and I didn’t feel giving each round equal weight was appropriate in that fight.
Doesn’t really matter though, as the fight was great and both guys are doing well. And while you’re digging up Condit fights, be sure to watch the Kampmann one too. It was right before Ellenberger and was one of the best fights of that year.

They need to both walk out to Less than Jake
And then I’ll put on my Gecko Hawaii shirt and set my VCR to record this fight.
