The Men Who Stopped Shogun Vs Forrest 3
As we all know this Saturday night will be the rematch between Forrest Griffin and Shogun Rua. The first fight seeing an injured Rua fighting Forrest and his heart, succumbing to a RNC in the final seconds of the fight. However, what most do not know is this fight could have happened 4 years earlier.
I bring you to Denver, Colorado on September 6th, where IFC: Global Domination was holding a very stacked 8 man one night LHW Tournament (not that we knew it at the time). With the likes of : Jeremy Horn, Chael Sonnen, Trever Prangley, Babalu Sobral and of course Shogun and Forrest.
Shogun, Forrest, Babalu and Horn would go on to win their quarter final bouts. With Forrest defeating Chael Sonnen by the infamous "wrapping your legs around someone" choke. This was Chael's first of many Triangle related defeats to come. Shogun defeating a "Super Heavy Jiu Jitsu Champion. Babalu decisioning Prangley and Horn defeating an Armenian-Russian, who we can pretty much assume is a cold blooded communist, by the name of Mikhail Avetisyan.
The semis were as:
Shogun vs Babalu
AND
Forrest vs Horn
Shogun would go on to lose to Babalu by Gulliotine Choke and Forrest by HEAD KICK from Jeremy Horn of all people.
And there you have it Babalu Sobral and Jeremy Horn put a halt to what would have been the FIRST Shogun-Forrest fight.

JHorn has a 17-2 KO-KO'd ratio, hes not a bum on the feet
only people to stop him via strikes are Chuck and Lindland
Mark Hunt's Special Move: Oceanic Heritage! Years ago someone told Polynesian DNA that everyone was surrounded by sea monsters and it believed them. It made humans that were immune to head injuries, fast enough to run on the highway, and big enough to use the carpool lane. Putting two of them in the same ring is like telling your local tectonic plates to fuck themselves.

Jeremy Horn, forgot about him. He was a very good fighter.
If heavyweight isn't the toughest division in the UFC, then why doesn't someone that can kick their asses move to it? They don’t even have to cut weight!!
WOW he has had 114 MMA fights?
That is craziness.
If heavyweight isn't the toughest division in the UFC, then why doesn't someone that can kick their asses move to it? They don’t even have to cut weight!!
Even more crazy
Considering basically half of those fights are wins against Sonnen
Win ugly.

What's weird is you never know how their career paths might have differed if they both won and fought then
After the loss to Sobral, Shogun’s next fight would be in Pride.
Forrest had one fight post-Horn before getting on The Ultimate Fighter.
If Shogun won against Forres then, I’d bet he still would have gone to Pride…only he would have been undefeated for quite some time…and Forrest probably still would have gone to TUF.
But if Forrest won…who knows, Shogun went to Pride off of the loss to Sobral, and probably would have off of the loss to Forrest…but would Forrest still have gone to Tuf?
More then likely I believe, since he has an aversion to fighting in foreign countries.
So maybe it wouldn’t have changed things much at all.
