Countdown to UFC 134 Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami Discussion

UFC 134: Rio Poster by Anton Tabuena

Tonight is the premier of the Countdown to UFC 134. This episode will be airing on Spike TV and should feature footage breaking down the main event between Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami as well as the co-main event clash between Forrest Griffin and Mauricio Rua. I'd also expect a quick breakdown of the heavyweight fight between Brendan Schaub and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. UFC 134 is the UFC's return to Rio and is unofficially Brazil vs the World.

Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami will meet for a second time. Okami is the last man to "defeat" Silva and is finally receiving the chance to prove that the first fight ended too soon. Anderson is fighting for his legacy as the best fighter of all time. In another rematch, Forrest Griffin and Mauricio Rua are fighting for relevancy in the light heavyweight division. Both fighters have been at the top and now need to prove that they still belong with the elite of the division. Schaub is hoping to continue to live up to his unofficial nickname "The Legend Killer" when he looks to continue his rise to the top against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Join us tonight at 11PM ET for a discussion of the episode.

Same

I just got lucky last night. I didn’t catch this story on BE, but I just so happened to put it on Spike last night after watching Jersey Shore *cough and it was just coming on. I love Andy’s outlook on the first match with Okami “I lost smiling I wasn’t the one knocked out”, and Chael’s chaeling…

It would be awesome to see a legend finally take him down a peg or two.

…and by Shaub of course I mean Schaub.

Something that bothers me is that Schaub is fighting against guys coming from loses, and he thinks that is the correct way to earn a title elimination fight soon.

They have some free photoshop paper texture brushes online. You could just overlay the paper texture brush over a solid color and simply play around with the transparency/fill and placement of the texture to get your desired effect.

If he wins, he's earned a shot at someone high up

Brock Lesnar or Frank Mir would both be good tests for him. Failing that, if Werdum came over to the UFC that could be a reasonable fight to make as well.

by Pyrgz Krum on Aug 25, 2011 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Not Werdum unless you want an ugly repeat of the Overeem fight.

Mir is a great idea.

by lowellthehammer on Aug 25, 2011 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I doubt...

Werdum would give Schaub the same respect he gave Overeem. He stood with Bigfoot, and I don’t see Schaub as any better than Silva.

Nice av, btw. Great line in a great movie.

by skeebop on Aug 26, 2011 9:43 AM EDT up reply actions

I think Carwin, Mir, Nelson, Reem would be a good next step and if he wins, then loser of Velasquez/JDS. A fight I would love to see but probably would never get to would be Schaub vs. Josh Barnett.
