Ryan Bader vs. Jason Brilz Scheduled for UFC 139
A lot of people have wondered who Ryan Bader would face coming off of his embarrassing loss to Tito Ortiz at UFC 132. Well, it looks like we have our answer now. The former Ultimate Fighter winner will face Jason Brilz. The good old UFC webpage kept this one short and sweet:
Also agreed to on that same fight card is a second light heavyweight showdown, this one between Jason "Hitman" Brilz and Ryan "Darth" Bader.
Bader is actually on a two-fight losing streak, as he was also defeated by current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones back at UFC 126. Those were the first two losses of his career, and it remains to be seen whether Bader can still be a force in the division or not. Brilz has also lost two fights in a row, and could very well be looking for a new employer if he loses this fight, although his loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was by the slimmest of margins and might not be counted against him.
Ryan "Darth" Bader (12-2)
Loss Tito Ortiz - Submission (Guillotine) UFC 132
Loss Jon Jones - Submission (Guillotine) UFC 126
Win Antonio Rogerio Nogueira - Decision (Unanimous) UFC 119
Jason "The Hitman" Brilz (18-4-1)
Loss Vladimir Matyushenko - KO (Punches) UFC 129
Loss Antonio Rogerio Nogueira - Decision (Split) UFC 114
Win Eric Schaefer - Decision (Unanimous) UFC on Versus 1

I question if Brilz will only because that questionable loss to little Nog was sooooooo long ago and he got steamrolled by Vladdy
Hopefully he just tears Bader a new one and this whole discussion is moot.

Brilz has a good guillotine,
and Bader shoots in with his neck stretched out… might as well be a bullseye. JB by some sort of front headlock series choke.
Xtreme Couture- The best never rest! The girl in my av is Kari Sweets (you're welcome).

Bonnar is fighting Kyle Kingsbury on this card, too
Oh and Bader vs. Brilz should arguably be loser goes home. If Bader can’t beat an average fighter like Brilz then he needs to go to the regional circuit and then the UFC can bring him back. He’s not hopeless but Jones handling him and Tito beating him standing is a sign he won’t be contending for the belt any time soon.
I went whale watching the other day. I think. There were a lot of people in that lake.
Bader's got two problems
1.) The only LHW who moves slower than Bader is Forrest Griffin.
2.) His boxing sucks and he is entirely dependent on that right hand, which can be neutralized by simply moving out of the way as it takes about 5 minutes for the punch to be completed.
I think he’s an acceptable #11-15 LHW right now but other than that he’s not a title contender in the slightest.

Bader's the better wrestler,
but he also has a tendency to stick his head into chokes, and Brilz has some good ones. I think Bader will likely play this one safe and get a decision, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Brilz catch him with something.
True that.
He was damn close with that guillotine on Lil Nog

"Him" = Bader
Why do you hate Bader?

I think Phil Davis would quickly submit him.

i don't think so if bader wants to win he has to get back on his wrestling
phil stand up is still a work in process same for bader. i think it will come down to who has a bettter gameplan and cardio. giving him brilz to me is a gimmie fight. after what vali did to him bader can knock brilz out with one punch
Bader should be on a 3 fight losing streak.
It can be argued that Brilz should only be coming off of one loss as well. Interesting.
What everyone needs to do is calm down, take a deep breath, and prepare their bodies for the Thunderdome.

I think Bader should get a new camp
making your own camp this early in your career and with CB Dollaway is not a good idea.
Doing anything with CB Dollaway is not a good idea.

He’s been working at Xtreme Couture and has thankfully been spending a lot of time with Gil Martinez.

Didn't know that
How long has he been there? I just remember him starting his own camp with douche face and Aaron Simpson.
I hope that they work on his stand up, it’s like a not good version of Hendo’s.
Since his last fight with Tito
I think he finally realized how terrible his standup is and Ray Sefo and Gil Martinez are the type of people you go to to fix that problem.

Making your own camp at any point before retirement is not a good idea. I just don’t think you can improve when you’re the top dog with no one to push you, especially if you’re trying to run a business while you train full time.

Sometimes it could work
if you’re doing it with other good fighters… not Aaron Simpson and CB Dollaway.
Boxers do it quite frequently don’t they?

I honestly don’t know. My only thought is that it may not be as big a deal in boxing because it’s a mature sport with a somewhat more limited skillset (admittedly, there’s a million nuances to those skills). In MMA there’s a ton of skills a fighter has to learn and drill, and at this point there’s very few guys that are world-class at any one of them, and fewer that are world-class at more than one. And unless you drill a skill against world-class guys, you’re never going to become world-class yourself.

Hope he beats up on Brilz. Don’t like bader but brilz had an interview on sherdog last year that really rubbed me the wrong way.

I also have a feeling that the loser won’t leave town. I have Bader winning this one.
