Brazilian MMA Fans Welcome Chael Sonnen With 'Lynching' Facebook Event

It was bound to catch up with him. Chael Sonnen has been spouting off about Brazil for the past year and it seems that finally MMA fans have had enough. Over 2500 Brazilian fans have "RSVP'd" to a Facebook event called "Linchamento do Chael Sonnen" (English: Lynching of Chael Sonnen). The page has the following description:
"Guys, everyone is aware of what this insect has been spewing about Brazil, the fighters, of the people of this country, of our culture. I think we should give him a 'warm welcome' when he comes to attend UFC Rio on the 27th, since Brazilians carries the fame of being sympathetic, hospitable, warm people, how about a big party for our friend Chael Sonnen?"
Now, obviously most people are taking this in jest. They aren't likely to actually lynch Chael Sonne when he arrives in Rio. However, there are those that likely do feel that Chael's words have crossed a line to being offensive in nature. He's made statements that some see as xenophobic regarding not just Anderson Silva and the Nogueira's, but also about the nation as a whole. To his credit though, his comments have helped some Brazilian fighters such as Demian Maia receive more exposure in their home country.
While Brazil is ramping up their infrastructure and security for the 2016 Olympic games, in the current state, they still have many social issues for the UFC to deal with. There are rumors of extensive identity theft and counterfeiting of tickets for this event. While I don't believe fighter safety is an issue, there could potentially be issues with the populace that will be turned away at the door. Hopefully this event is just a joke and that no one crosses the line into actually forming a lynch mob.
UPDATE: It seems this story is picking up steam not just in the US but also Brazil. There are many who are concerned that this page may influence some individuals into actually attacking Chael Sonnen should he be in Brazil. News outlet SRZD reached out to the creators of the page who had the following to say:
"My master always teaches us that, the use of fighting is only for good things, I am of peace, I hate violence, I always try to resolve my issues in conversations" says Raphael, who created the page.
When asked if they didn’t fear it being misinterpreted, he replied: "That was my biggest fear, I even mentioned to Rafael (the other guy who had the idea for the page) jokingly that we could be sued, people could take it seriously and all. That’s why we put a lot of small jokes in the text, we didn’t put anything serious so that we wouldn’t be promoting violence"
It should also be noted that it is very likely that Sonnen won't be able to attend the fights because of his probation following his Federal money laundering case. In the unlikely event that he actually is able to leave the country, I would say it is in his best interest for him to travel with security during his time in Brazil.

I had just finished 2 hours of conditioning and bag work. I had my heart rate over 160 the entire time. I reached 193, and stayed at around 185 for 15 minutes. My max HR is 200. So yeah, I don’t fuck around.
I was so, so exhausted. My energy was needed for breathing not thinking.

Time for a conduct policy in UFC?
With all the talk about the Fox TV contract and UFC stepping into a role among mainstream sports, Zuffa should take a look at the kinds of conduct policies the big boys have. If Sonnen wants to be a clown, that’s fine. If he wants to keep making the kind of offensive, insulting remarks he makes; wants to lie to athletic commissions; or wants to commit fraud / money laundering in his real estate dealings, at some point he becomes a liability rather than an asset.
I’d guess Goodell or Stern would have him in and tell him the facts of life if he was in the NFL or NBA. Of course, they have a league-wide policy they can point to to support the lecture and any sanctions they’d impose. It doesn’t look like Zuffa has anything of the sort. Perhaps they do, but maybe it’s kind of selectively enforced based on convenience and economics.

The questions still remain
Why does Chael Sonnen not address the question about his murdering of 5 hookers in the mid 90s? I’m not saying he did it, but he’s never denied it. We need Chael Sonnen to come clean and release his records to the public so we can know for sure. What we do know is this: In the mid 90s, Chael Sonnen did exist, and in the mid 90s at LEAST 5 hookers were murdered (there were probably more, maybe he did those too). These questions just won’t go away which is why Chael Sonnen must come clean and aswer them.

The fight itself is likely to be a bore for one reason or another I fear.

I don’t think Silva is going to mock his own crowd, and people are writing off Okami’s wrestling, but I do not. It could be one sided, but that wouldn’t make it bad either, I’m always down for some Spider styling.

The thing is
Okami’s wrestling isn’t like Chael’s.
He’s a lot less athletic, not a Greco guy and doesn’t have quiet the strength and top control. Not too mention, Chael has a very solid chin, which really the only reason the fight almost lasted 5 rounds.
Anderson is very good at shutting down Yushin’s style of fighting. That and Mark Munoz has fought Yushin recently and is probably preparing Anderson for this fight.

Yushin is much more likely to be able to replicate Sonnen’s approach against Silva, both physically and technically, than Florian could have ever hoped to replicate GSP’s performance against BJ. Kenny was not nearly strong, quick, or skilled enough.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Then I remembered all the people wrestling with great wrestlers to improve their game always ending up on their asses in fights. Maybe Chael really improved Okami’s wrestling, or helped him adapt for Silva’s style somehow, maybe he didn’t killed 5 hookers in the mid 90’s. Maybe I’ll feel stupid for giving Okami a chance to take him down and put up a fight.

I was very surprised to hear that Chael is actually going down to Brazil to corner Okami, previously I didn’t think that it would be possible for him at an MMA event there out of security reasons. The South Americans are quite feisty, and have rioted or caused violence for less. I actually still think that this is a very bad idea. I won’t exactly be surprised if something bad happens to him down there. Good luck Chael, you’re going to need it (also: several bodyguards).
