Dan Henderson beats Fedor and suddenly he is a key asset to the UFC? Let's think about this for a moment after we look at the immediate future:
Definite Title Shots
Rashad Evans vs Tito Ortiz: Whoever wins gets a title shot. Yes, if Tito wins, he will.
Forrest Griffin vs Mauricio Rua: This fight has serious title shot implications written all over it. The winner may either wait and be given the next shot or be the perfect next opponent for Ryoto Machida and create a legitimate #1 contender bout.
Potential Title Shots
Phil Davis: He'll be coming back against Rich Franklin or Alexander Gustaffson/Matt Hamill, putting him "in the mix" of title shot range should he have an impressive performance.
Alexander Gustaffson: Oh yeah this guy exists. Well if he wins that fight and beats this alleged match-up with Phil Davis, he will also be "in the mix"
The Rest of "the mix"
The losers of the aforementioned fights will probably still have jobs, and depending on who DFW decides he likes, they'll climb the ladder again and face off against guys like Ryan Bader, Vladdy, Little Nog, or pad their stats with Jason "John" Brilz, Brandon Vera, Stephan Bonnar and that guy who looks like a Gears of War character with many z's in his names.
So keep in mind the title is fought for 4 times since May 23, 2009 when the "Machida Era" began.
I think it is safe to say they are in no trouble looking for contenders. This is barring things like Rampage actually defeating Jones, controversial fights which require immediate rematches, injuries delaying title defenses, etc.
In closing: Sorry Dan Henderson, the unemployment line is that way
