Karlos Vemola met Ronny Markes in a light heavyweight battle on the Facebook stream of the UFC on Versus 5 undercard. It was Markes' UFC debut and Vemola looked to welcome him to the Octagon with his powerful strikes.

Vemola would swing so wildly during the first round that he found himself swinging at air well after Markes had moved out of range. Eventually, Markes got a takedown against the fence. Toward the end of the round Vemola locked in a guillotine choke which he held until the bell to end the frame.

Vemola came out with wild punches again in the second, this time seeming to be closer to landing a knockout punch but again being taken down by Markes. Vemola would get back to his feet repeatedly but Markes seemed to just be too strong for the exhasted Karlos. Markes worked for several knees to the body becore a big trip takedown and ground and pound to the end of the round.

Vemola threw wild strikes yet again to open the third round, but again ended up pushed into the cage. Vemola would get taken down again and the round would play out exactly like the first two, with Vemola being owned off his back.

All three judges scored it 30-27 for Ronny Markes making it a successful debut.
