The bout has been rumored for a long time, but now it's finally official. UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes will face Diego Sanchez at UFC 135 in Denver on September 24th. The UFC officially added the fight to the UFC 135 card on their website today. The matchup could serve as the co-main event of the evening.
Former UFC welterweight champion Hughes is looking to rebound from his 21-second knockout loss to B.J. Penn at UFC 123 last November. He had won three bouts in a row before that. Sanchez squeaked by Martin Kampmann with a highly controversial decision win at UFC on Versus 3 in March. He has now won two in a row and will be looking to make a renewed push at a welterweight title shot.
