Former WEC lightweight champ, Jamie Varner, has joined the AMA Fight Club in New Jersey, to train alongside Jim and Dan Miller, Charlie Brenneman, Rafaello Oliveira, Ricardo Romero, and Amanda Nunes.
Head trainer Mike Constantino discussed Varner on the Savage Dog Show:
"We basically came to the decision that it’s in the best interest of Jamie to come here full time, and I’m willing to take on Jamie as a manager and a trainer. I think he’s extremely talented. The kid’s 26 years old, only, and you already know what he’s accomplished. By having him full-time training with all my fighters and all our trainers here at AMA and doing everything right, I truly believe that not only could he be back in the UFC shortly, he could go straight to the top and win a championship."

Varner is a very underrated fighter
he’s still got a ton of potential.

I'm with you
He absolutely deserves to be in the UFC right now, despite how people feel about him. Hell, because of how people feel about him. He’s marketable as a heel and a top flight fighter.

I didnt even realize how young he was. With the right camp and teammates he could still be a force.

Completely agree, I am rooting for him and sincerely hope makes his way back to the UFC. This certainly seems like a step in the right direction, he can only improve being around those guys. I think all the hate he gets is a little blown out of proportion, so I’m firmly a supporter of Jamie Varner now. I can understand where some of the issues are, but I just don’t like that mob mentality where everyone decides to hate on a guy. Go Varner!

nah
saying hendo wasn’t fighting but running after losing to him
saying cerrone doesnt deserve to fight him (and then he lost)
and spitting his mouthpiece out after getting rocked by razor rob to get some time to recover,
nah i think he deserves what hes getting from fans

I’m not defending his actions, he’s definitely a bit prone to saying stupid stuff. But I still think that what he did doesn’t justify the amount of vitriol he gets from most people. Cerrone seems like 10x more of a douchebag IMO.

wait wait, hold up, stop the full-contact fighting
he said something vaguely hurtful about some guy I don’t even know.

Hopefully spending all day, every day with solid guys like the Miller brothers will help de-douchify Varner because he is extremely talented and has all kinds of upside. I’m not sure he’ll ever win a UFC title but there’s no reason he couldn’t eventually find himself “in the mix.”

With some more wins under his belt, he may get the call back into the UFC. It’s tough though because he fights at Lightweight which is stacked, and he has already lost to Shane Roller, Ben Henderson, and Donald Cerrone. If he does go back to the UFC, and if he can make the cut, he should try his hand at Featherweight. He looked like a good sized Lightweight though, so I don’t know if he’d be able to make that cut.

Poor Lally brothers...
They lost all their blue chippers. I think that in the right camp, Varner could get back on track big time. I don’t see him winning a belt, but I can see him being a pre-2011 Clay Guida-level gatekeeper.
