Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire Out of Bellator 47 Title Fight With Broken Hand

Stay connected for news and updates

Patricio "Pitbull" Freire will have to wait a while longer before he gets the chance to avenge his only loss. He was expected to face Joe Warren for the Bellator featherweight title at Bellator 47 on July 23rd, but the fight will now be pushed back to the fall. MMAJunkie has it:

A broken hand has forced Patricio "Pitbull" Freire (17-1 MMA, 5-1 BFC) to withdraw from a planned fight with Bellator Fighting Championships featherweight champion Joe Warren (7-1 MMA, 5-0 BFC).

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the injury with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, who said the fight will likely be rebooked following Warren's participation on the promotion's upcoming season-five bantamweight tourney.

Friere had won the season four featherweight tournament to earn another shot at Warren, who beat him by split decision at Bellator 23 last June. If Warren makes the finals of the season five bantamweight tournament, Friere might be waiting a long time to get his chance again. Warren will face Alexis Vila in the quarter-finals of that tournament on September 24th at Bellator 51.

Patricio "Pitbull" Freire (17-1)
Win Daniel Straus - Decision (Unanimous) Bellator 45
Win Wilson Reis - KO (Punches) Bellator 41
Win Georgi Karakhanyan - TKO (Punches) Bellator 37
